What exactly is wrong with Windows 11 Home edition for the average consumer?
Because we aren't all iSheep who want to be locked into Apple's disposable products ecosystem.
Because we want to upgrade, repair, and modify our devices as we see fit without the threat of lawsuits.
Because we want to buy replacement parts for our devices without jumping through hoops.
Because we want to repair our devices when they have trouble instead of being told by apple's "geniuses" that they need to be replaced.

I used to love apple. I learned my lesson. Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave.

Anyone know how the thermals are on this model?

I do know anything is usually better than Dell's XPS line when it comes heat management..
LG Gram line is seriously underrated. I have the 13" version from a generation back. It was a lateral upgrade from Dell XPS. It is lighter (Magnesium vs Aluminium). Thermals are better and exhaust blows to the back, not to the bottom. So you can actually hold it on your lap. You can also lay it on a soft surface without blocking the vents. The battery life is also much better than the XPS (it's pretty obvious if you look at capacities). After trying several Thinkpads, and then XPS, this is the first travel laptop I am actually happy with.

Can this power two 4k external monitors at 60hz or above? I have this machine from 2 years ago, it can power 1 4k monitor at 60hz, the other 4k monitor only at 30Hz.

I would say it is ok/good. If you want to peg the cpu at 100% for days on end it would not be my choice. It will throttle. Having said that for a light notebook it does reasonable well.

Del XPS line it depends on which model. Their normal issue is the paste used/application. They also switched from one fan to two. Normally if you reapply paste it will help. I have not paid attention recently, but almost all notebooks seem to throttle because they all have highend cpus as the only option.

Last I checked, Win 11 (non-Pro) is the first OS that requires you to be signed in to a MS account to use your own computer. May not be a problem for the "average consumer", IDK.
No, you can have local accounts as well

Complete turd of an OS missing way too many Windows 10 features. Microsoft has followed its typical Good OS/Bad OS pattern from a UX perspective. Under the hood I'm sure it is a leap forward but regular users don't see/understand - they just know it sucks to use and is way more buggy than the last version. Windows forever my @$$!

Why buy one of these when a MacBook m1 air will scream circles around this. X86 has officially lost

The performance of 12th generation intel and Apple silicone is fairly comparable. Apple's silicone is still more energy efficient but that is offset by the Gram's bigger battery. Also, Apple doesn't have a comparable product. At this price range you're looking at a 13 inch Air which is significantly less screen real estate than this 17 inch. You're looking at over a 100% increase in price to get up to the 16 inch pro and that device is 50% heavier. Also not all programs run on Mac OS and unlike intel versions of Mac running windows or windows programs is not as easy.

The new lines of MacBook Air and Pro is impressive but it's not the be all end all in laptops.

Can you downgrade it for free?

Should be able to. Product keys embedded in firmware are interchangeable between windows 10 and 11, drivers too. Grab c:\windows\system32\driverstore folder, download windows 10 with windows 10 media creation tool, boot from it, wipe all partitions, install it, use saved driver's to kill all bangs in the device manager.

Is the RAM upgradeable on this model or is it all soldered on?

10th gen Intel LG Gram was the last generation with upgradable memory. In 11th and 12th gen it's soldered. The screen also changed from glossy 400+ nits in 10th gen to more like 330-350 nits in 11th and 12th. The overall frame remained the same.

I have 1065G7 17" LG Gram and I put 40G of RAM there (8+32). The best travel / productivity laptop ever. I am not upgrading yet as 1065 is plenty for what I do and it runs cool with no fan.

And 17" 2560*1600 is so nice for productivity that I am often ignoring the monitor LG is connected to.

Only 3 complaints if I get picky:

1. Sound is terrible.
2. Would pay more for OLED/120Hz or even IPS/120Hz
3. The frame could still be reduced slightly, like Dell XPS 17. Sometimes it's hard to fit it into a hotel deposit safe box.

This isn't the laptop for you if you care about those things.

I own the i7 version. My favorite laptop ever. LG won't be actively working against it's customers repairing their own devices.

Thx & I agree with you on XPS model, just to let folks know the Dell XPS 13 Plus OLED in it's current state is a buggy throttling mess that get way too hot on lite/general tasks. For example just Zoom (granted that there are usually more than 20 ppl on the call) calls drains the battery considerably were I get barely 3 hours so this model is not for me. Dell may fix some of these later down line with updates though, I already replaced it with a M$ Surface Laptop 4 & much happier with thermals & battery life.

The LG Gram seems like a good contender for desktop replacement which I need as well.
