Honestly after getting fitted, this is more about finding the combination with the driver shaft. Unless you're really good, I would opt for the most forgiving driver, and then find the best shaft combination that works.

The nice thing about PXG is they are great at customizing for almost no additional cost. When I did my fitting, they picked a Stealth+ and a shaft that was same cost as the driver which was insane. With the PXG driver, I got similar results for considerably less cost.

And I would add that the shaft matters alot more than the driver itself after my fitting.

Man their marketing is the worst. I won a set of the Gen 3 irons at a work tournament and honestly they are really good irons. I'm torn because I don't love their brand and marketing, but for an entry level player, they are great value. A buddy of mine got their 0221 irons set + fitting for like $750. That's crazy for a set of fitted and relatively customizable irons.

Tried the proto from a few generations back and it was fantastic. Better launch and spin numbers than the SIM I was gaming. Take the time to find the right shaft and weights. Legit top tier gear for sure! The marketing is annoying but they've stepped up their game 100%

My bad for not providing more relevant info, but still appreciate all the feedback and they are very helpful. I am playing to a 15 HDCP after laying off for almost 20 years (about to hit 60 soon). I have a few used drivers to play with at the moment (Callaway EPIC flash, TM R15 and Adams superfast which seems like a TM to me). I use Taylormade R15 most of the time, 11 deg and pretty consistent in finding the fairway (say 8 out of 10), at about 210 yrds on average. According to my Rapsodo MLM, I average about 90 swing speed and usually 15 deg launch angle.
I get the heros discount so I can get a driver for 250 which is tempting. Don't have fitters nearby since I am stationed overseas, which is why I was debating. Maybe I should buy two or three with different shafts, then sell the rest locally Smilie It's a hassle but easily get sold at cost.
I am looking at Tensi 55 blue regular shaft at the moment. Maybe will get a project X regular as well...

Proto X's are still available and I found it to be a very solid and forgiving drive. If you wanted the maximum in affordable forgiveness then the 0211 driver might be a consideration also. Contrary to one post here there drivers and fairways are definitely not trash and some of the hybrids are excellent too. I do agree that for drivers it is about finding a good combination between head and shaft. I really did not like any of the CB models as I guess counter balancing is not a thing for me. I also seem to fair much better with shafts medium firm around 60 grams give or take a bit. Perhaps if you know what kind of shaft you have gotten on with well in the past it would make sense to choose something close to it. Just a thought anyway!

For the average golfer who plays MAYBE twice a month, how is a $600 driver "amazing"? I'll bet most people on SD looking for deals fall into that category because you're almost never gonna find deals on Ping or Titleist clubs or most any of the "top" brands. And I'm not gonna lie, I've been playing for about 10 years and have NEVER spent a lot of money on clubs. I just don't feel like I play enough to justify it.
