Gross margin is meaningless, net margin is everything. Gross margin equates to net sales minus the cost of goods sold. It does not factor all the other costs which you don't know. Freight, labor, advertising, coop. RMA costs, building, R&D. etc. A restaurant usually has 65-70% gross margin -- most net under 10%.These prices are below my dealer cost. I've pulled all my gpu's from sale and only sell in full systems now.
Gross margin is one of the primary valuation metrics used by evaluate the market position and earnings potential of a manufacturer. The other cost factors you mentioned are important but can vary significantly from quarter to quarter based on how NRE and other costs are viewed and amortized. Your dealer cost is not material since this is being sold directly by the board manufacturer, which obviously bypasses the dealer channels.

I've been in the industry for almost 40 years and have bought and sold over a half billion dollars of computer hardware. Gross margin is used in CONJUNCTION with other metrics...there is no "primary" as it is irrelevant without those other numbers. EVGA is a fabless company. they actually manufacture nothing. GPU's are manufactured in Taiwan cards then assembled in China. Then they are packed in boxes by a packing company. You, like most here, think you know something, but your really don't. I've been an EVGA partner since the company was founded. I've been to both Taiwan and chines factories. Most of the products that are shipped by computer companies directly are blind shipped from D&H, TD Synnex, Ingram Micro, or ASI. Those are the 5 largest distributors in the world.

Net is a more specific item than gross. Therefore gross isn't everything, it's something.

This is an excerpt from investopedia:

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Earnings per share (EPS) is the portion of a company's profit allocated to each outstanding share of common stock.EPS (for a company with preferred and common stock) = (net income - preferred dividends) ÷ average outstanding common sharesEPS is sometimes known as the bottom line—the final statement, both literally and figuratively, of a firm's worth.

Haha, there's alway something to learn from SDer comments. Much appreciated. Keep the conversation going. Glad I didn't pull the trigger a few month back when 3090 TI listed for $2k

Net income can vary dramatically quarter by quarter based on many factors that are not related to the underlying profitability of the business, such as write-downs and impairment charges. If you're looking for a reliable net measure then it's free cash-flow that you want to analyze. If you'd like to exclude interest and taxes and amortization (since those can also vary by business climate and economic conditions) then it's EBITDA that you're interested in.

once the new 4000 series comes out in october, the price will stabilize. it should be purchased before the 4000 release, as the 4000 will likely be much, much more expensive and these will just be flushed out.

Worth it or wait it out? My GPU right now is good enough for my needs but I'd upgrade to the 4080 most likely otherwise. Will the performance of the 4080 be a) better than this and b) cheaper than this? I game, have 3x 1440p monitors and do video editing in after effects and premiere in 4K.

Pairing with the Supernova 1600w 80+ plat psu puts it at about $1,400 after taxes.
Something to consider is how much power the 4000 series is slated to draw. The power needed is gonna be insane for the top end cards even when compared to this card. You may also be hard pressed to get a 4000 when they come out just like every new card family. People were buying 2080tis on firesale when the 3000 cards were announced and then you couldnt get one for a year plus.

It will be interesting. Because of the weird covid demand they way over produced, so here we are. I can't see them making this mistake again so soon with 4000 cards. Remember 2080ti's were $1200. With our serious inflation I couldn't guess how much, or how many 4000 series cards will be.

Yea but why buy twice
