This $49 router is too weak for your case. I recommend another $229 deal with 2 Asus AX6100 tri-band mesh routers. Put router 1 in the center of your main house to cover about 2000ft. Put router 2 in your studio as close to the main house as possible. They will connect via the 5GHz band 3 at up to 877Mbps.

Setup 2.4GHz band 1 for your guest users and slow devices like printer, thermostat, and security system. Setup 5Ghz band 2 for your high-speed devices like laptop, phone, tablet, and Roku. Plug your gaming and VR gear directly into the Gigabit Ethernet on router 1 or 2. Enjoy your new network.

How is the range on this? I had a previous gen wifi 5 nighthawk and it was great for the most part but wanted something with a bit more range so went with tp-link deco mesh and dont really like it. Feels like it drops signal periodically for no reason and range isnt great for a pod system. Considering going back to nighthawk.

Curious how well it performs with only two antennas vs the plethora of antennas some have.

How is it compared to the WAX202 which is selling at 29.99 on amazon ? RAX35 seems to have faster AX speed but a slower processor

Buyers beware. The router itself is amazing and especially at this price. My only gripe is the buggy app with iOS. If you wish to use the many features such as enabling devices or changing your password, the app will lock you out of the router resulting in you having to hard reset the router to factory defaults. Absolute pain in the rear. Netgear's only solution is to not use FaceiD for the apps password.

Sorry for long comment.

I have Google WiFi which seems to be 10mbit over wired and like 500k over wireless. I have 1g fiber at the new house but has a detached studio. It's a rental so I am not going to bury a cat6 line underground or anything. I need the studio to use WiFi6 for VR stuff. If I have two pucks in the house and one in the studio, it seems the wireless tx speed is capped at half or less but it says wired is much higher. So does that mean wired from any puck or just the one physically connected to the fiber modem ( I know it's not technically a modem)? If so, can I connect one of these to the puck /wifi mesh node in the studio so I can get gigabit speeds in there and use Wi-Fi 6. For my specific VR hardware? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and find a much more powerful Wi-Fi mesh? But does 1 gig or higher wirelessly?

I'd say the studio is a good 40 ft away with many walls and some shit in between the two physical buildings.

Thanks in advance and good luck to anyone who can decipher my question and has the bravery to answer. May the odds be in your favor.

what's the wifi signal strength in the place you need high speed? -80db? -70db? -50...

you can get highest speeds with 5ghz 80mhz wide band but that reduces range...need a good antenna.

interference another factor...is it a busy, populated area?

40ft cable from rooftop not possible? that's the cheapest best way by far. You can do 100ft on cat5e and still get 1Gb LAN.

throwing money at a premade mesh won't magically overcome signal and interference issues.

Cable on roof is a great idea! But the setup would be: fiber box wired to 1st puck in office, unwired 2nd puck in living room with nothing external plugges in, 40 ft cat5e/6 from 1st puck or directly from fiber modem across the yard to studio, and finally a 1g+ speed WiFi6 router coming off that end in the studio while also having 3rd puck as a bonus AP in the studio as well?

Weak, it's 2x2 5G. Even with an AX client, it does worse than a 1w output 4x4 AC wave2 radio..(in my environment/walls).

Then again, its only $49 bucks. Can't really complain. Performance is inline with other 2x2 options like the v1 AX58U.

If you're looking for range and have a ton of older AC clients, buy 4x4 radios.

Worth a try at this price IMHO especially if returns are free. The reviews are actually better than on the new one.

From what I read, the RAX35 is the Walmart version of RAX40 with a USB 2.0 port instead of USB 3.0.

I have the WAX202 and it has been solid. But I'm just using it as an AP, and using a TP-Link as my router (TP-Link wifi has a habit of dropping devices from the wifi and not letting them back on).
