These are junk. Don't expect the mdf to last long before sagging like crazy... especially in a garage or somewhere with humidity.

I inherited something similar where the shelves completed fell apart and got moldy from moisture. I ended up replacing the MDF portion with precut sections of some engineered wood product from Home Depot and it's been better so far. Just throwing that out as an option to make this or other shelves a better value for a somewhat higher cost.

I agree, these are junk. Metal is flimsy be carful putting together can cut. The shelves will mold and need to be replaced. Wish I wouldn't have purchased these.

These are beyond junk. Not worth $5 to get. Folds under the least weight.

Garbage, the metal frame holds the shelving brackets with small metal tabs. Easy to accidentally pop out if you bang something into it. I wouldn't take one if it was free.

FWIW I've owned these type of shelves that have been kept in my basement for years with no mold or warping issues.
I have larger versions in my shed where it gets insanely hot and haven't seen any warping or mold on that particle board either .. not even the mice in the shed bothered chewing on the shelves. Maybe I got lucky.

Since these are junk, can anyone recommend a better option with adjustable shelves and not plastic or wire shelving?

Glue one strip flat against the underside of the shelf to stiffen the back edge. Then I glue the other strip (nosing) to the front edge

Not sure where the additional pics came from but they do point out more closely that these shelves use the keyholes to lock in the shelves. I have keyhole versions of shelves like these and also the little tab versions, and while both serve me well, the keyhole versions are very sturdy. When putting them together, if you have a rubber mallet you're good to go! They won't move unless you want them to, in which case you'd be using the rubber mallet from the underside to pop them up, but in no way should an occasional bump knock them out or even something stronger. Again, not the same shelves, but the same locking mechanism, I moved some shelves around to make some shorter and others taller, and I needed to hit them really hard with the rubber mallet to unseat them so I could move them.

Not sure if this shelf is the same, but more of a commentary on the difference between the keyhole/lock versus the little tabs you have to hammer in.
