Would really like to know what they're doing with all these off-brand, used headphones they're getting as trade. If they just end up in Samsung's dumpster, the collective customer annoyance, shipping-related waste/pollution, etc., would be a real shame for something that might be better accomplished via a limited time sale or coupon or whatever. IDK though, maybe they're being responsible corporate citizens...
This is a total guess...but I suspect they donate them somewhere. Possibly offshore. And I would not be shocked to learn that some legal beagle over there has made the legal argument that each pair they donate is valued at $50...(Based on the defined trade value in the trade-ins) And they take a tax write-off.
And if I want to take this guess a little farther...(And yes, it is totally guessing...I have no firsthand knowledge)...they have found trade-in deals like this work much better for them than just a discount or even a rebate.
They get to keep the MAP where it is.. (Min advertised price).
They get to market in a way to make a person think that they are getting a deal.
And they get to keep a portion of the discount in the form of a tax deduction.
Shits gonna be $99 soon after release with some other trade in deal. Just wait

Preordered these with my Flip 4 preorder (for $95 after $900 trade in for my Flip 3), paid $28 for the Buds2 Pro after using $100 accessory credit as part of Flip 4 deal, military discount, and using Samsung points for remaining credit. Just throwing this out there if anyone wants these and is also considering preordering a flip/fold 4.

It's especially funny since they are so heavy handed in their eco marketing. If they were doing something other than generating e-waste, it seems likely they would be shouting that out at every opportunity.

They should just do $50 more off instead of this trade in drama.
