I own two of these- they're terrible. They're HUGE- like nearly the size of a Post-It note- so it makes it awkward hanging off the end of your guitar. They're also not sensitive enough for some types of guitars- Mine has issues hearing the A and B strings on my Gibsons and PRS guitars.

Honestly the best clip on tuners I've used are also the cheapest- the D'Addario Micro's. They're under $20 and frequently on sale for $11-$14. They're tiny, accurate, easy to read, you can keep them on the guitar while you put them in the case, and use a watch battery that lasts for years, so...that's my .02.
Post-it note sized? Quite an exaggeration. It's literally 1.6inches (I just measured mine). Sure its a larger than micro-tuners, but for those with poor eyes, this is a god-send.

I know what you mean about some tuners not working well with some instruments though. I have never had that issue with this tuner, and I think I have about 45ish stringed instruments at the moment (obviously haven't used this with all of them).

I have 2 of these and love them. Just ordered 4 more (limit 4) to give as gifts. I like the size as it's big enough to cover the Epiphone logo on my new ES-335.

That's it. It looks like they redesigned it and increased the prices by a few bucks though.

I bought the guitar on a SD and have been waiting a decade for a good deal on a tuner to play it. Stick Out Tongue

I keep buying more stringed instruments, it makes sense to grab tuners when they're cheap so I don't have to run around hunting for them. Thanks, bought 3 different models, haha

Yeah I like the d'addario micro tuners a lot. Clip on tuners like this fender one tend to have a buzz imo

Get something like this for improved jamming and practice flexibility when unplugged. I have the d'addario Micro and it's my favorite for the last few years . This fender one is rechargeable but that likely means once it's dead in a few years it goes in the trash.

To answer your Question -

Tuning app- best for quiet environment and where your phone or tablet is conveniently close by

Mic'd tuner - a step up from tuning app but hard to use when jamming with others.

Plug in tuner l - better for isolating your instrument but usually requires you to fidget with the device

Headstock like this /soundhole / other contact tuner - good for when unplugged and In noisy environments when jamming and you want both hands on your guitar instead of fidgeting with app for on the fly tuning, but you'll need to remember to mute yourself if you're plugged in

Pedal or fx unit tuner - optimal for gigs since it'll automatically mute the signal and not be influenced by noise, and you can control with foot.

Honestly I only use clip on tuners on my acoustics. Nearly any combo pedal has a built in tuner now for electric (like the Line 6 POD GO for example) , and the separate pedal tuners are far superior to clip-ons (like a Polytune or a Korg).
