I think the key difference here is I'm not buying the phone from the carrier nor paying it off in instalments. It's an unlocked phone, the main discount from the promo is provided by BB. There is another discount from BB as an incentive to activate the device with a carrier at the point of sale but this doesn't affect the fact the phone is paid-for outright (I could put in and use a different carrier's sim when I get home, for example). And the line doesn't seem to have a contract that specifies a minimum term of time.
B and A stock (and some C stock) will generally be fine for trade in. They look at the front glass, back glass, camera glass (maybe) and check the IMEI against blacklists etc. Scratches aren't the same as cracks, but on the Flip3 and any flip phones for trade, do not count on the employees to know the difference between the screen protector peeling and an actual crack. Your best bet is to buy B stock with good glass.
