The difference between a cheap pair of bolt cutters and a good pair is easily worth the premium. If its over budget for you maybe consider asking your parents for some extra chores around the house in exchange for a higher allowance

The "list price" of $86.42 is well exaggerated (shocker). Per CCC, in over the past year, this often hovered around $55 and it frequently dropped to the mid-to-upper $40's. Still a decent deal at $41 if you need one.

Seller has 100% positive reviews, but if you look at their review history there's a ton of lower ratings that are crossed as "Message from Amazon: This item was fulfilled by Amazon, and we take responsibility for this fulfillment experience."

Does anyone know what the deal is with these nullified reviews? Are sellers able to buy star ratings like with Yelp? Never heard of this particular seller but I've been burned before by an Amazon seller who seemed to have a good record.

Hate to upstage myself, but this is available even cheaper from the UK amazon global store at $36. That price includes customs duties and shipping, the only downside is a longer wait.

Ah I see. English doesn't work when you write it that way. It's ambiguous because "not x and y" can mean either "(not x) and (not y)" *or* not (x or y), depending on speaker intonation. You meant the former, I read the latter. Best practice when writing is to instead phrase as "y and not x".

I think generally on Slickdeals, someone posting "not shipped and sold by Amazon" is meant as a warning. High value tools and and other items like this that are shipped by, but not sold be Amazon are sometimes counterfeit.

For items not sold by, but shipped by Amazon, the seller sends their inventory to an Amazon warehouse and Amazon takes care of sending it to the buyer. They call this "fulfillment".

If the buyer leaves a negative review that is applicable to Amazon's portion of the transaction, they don't let that ding the seller's reputation since the seller had nothing to do with the buyer's poor experience.

Thanks, yeah that makes sense. What doesn't make sense to me is when the negative review has to do with the product itself, not the fulfillment. For example a (different) seller offered a Prime Day deal for 30 glue sticks and I see a ton of 1-star reviews (including mine) saying they only received 10. My impression is that these low ratings are all filtered by computer rather than by humans, and only if you buy into fulfillment by Amazon.

Digressing a bit from the thread but my point is be careful with third party sellers. To be fair Amazon has always refunded the return, but it's still an unwanted hassle.

You're missing a very important piece of information. Amazon commingles 3rd party vendor inventory all together. Thus you have the same odds of getting a countefeit for any given vendor. In other words, ordering from Amazon or a perfectly honest vendor doesn't protect you.


This has been gone over a million times on SD already.
