They really aren't the same stuff most of the time. If you don't care about longevity or yellowing/fading then they work fine.
I tried multiple generic sport loop style bands and the velcro started to fail within 6-9months on multiple, to the point the watch almost fell off. I got an Apple version (also on clearance) and it's still going strong about 18months later. The $25 ends up being slicker and less expensive in the long run.
All bands that were for the larger of the two sizes for all gens are compatible: 42/44/45 mm
Same with the smaller of the two sizes: 38/40/41 mm
And if yours is the larger size of Series 7, it should be 45mm
(Also side note, I recently found out the smaller size bands will still work with the larger watch size, it just won't be flush on the left and right but it locks without issue in the middle)

The Apple watch bands are $2-3 a pop. I don't see any real difference.
Others have said it, and I will say it as well. They are not the same. You may not "see" a difference, but you will feel a difference, especially over time. I've had knock-off ones, and they just aren't as good. Are these worth $50? Probably not. But I do think they're worth $25.
There have been deals that were even lower too, like this one, this one, and this one, just to show a few.
For me, anything below $20 is an instant buy if I like the color, so I'm probably not buying any of these. I do have about ten of these sport loops, and I think they're the best way to wear the Apple Watch. For anyone who's never worn one, you'll likely love it.

Any thoughts on the sport loop vs the Nike sport band?
I have a sport loop and like it, it's super light and perfect fit and secure, but it never "disappears." I always feel it just a bit warmer than my skin, like a fabric car seat. Also hesitate to take it in the water because it feels like it would take some time to dry…
Was able to grab a 45mm red band from Amazon. I've had the same band for almost 4 years and it still feels like new, just scuffed up. Can't wait for a refresh

If by work fine you mean they keep your watch on your wrist then yea. Most of them are cheap as hell and fall apart, with the added bonus of being super uncomfortable while they do actually last.
For Sport Loops you can definitely tell the difference between a $3 from AliExpress and an expensive one.
But for the silicon sport band ones? It's the exact same silicon in the knockoffs, and I highly doubt anyone could tell the difference in a blind test. I've got about a dozen, some expensive, some dirt cheap, and I'd honestly have to check my receipts to see which came direct from China and which ones also came from China, just through a middle-man raking in the dough. The cheap ones certainly don't wear/stain noticeably faster.
No experience with the leather ones, but a lot of leather products on AliExpress are junk, so I'd probably stay away from cheap leather ones.
I really liked my Apple sport loop, but it did not last long. The end piece originally landed about halfway around my wrist (still comfortably on the palm side), but within a year it was stretching past the far edge of the watch. It was also stained and visibly worn all over. Still, I liked it so much that I wanted to replace it with another real Apple band, but at the time I couldn't find a single band that I liked (they'd discontinued my original band).
So I reluctantly bought a three-pack of generic bands for $18 and was pleasantly surprised to discover that they were just about as comfortable as the real thing. The texture is a little different, but not necessarily "worse" in either feel or look, and while I couldn't find any Apple colors I liked, I like the colors of all three generic bands. I don't recall how long it took for the Apple band to start deteriorating, but I'm still on my first generic after four months with no sign of wear or stretching, so it's already at least 1/3 as long-lived at 1/8 the price.
Overall, a much more positive experience than I had with third party sport bands (which never quite matched the softness of Apple's proprietary fluoroelastomer preparation) or Milanese loops (which had a high failure rate and showed wear quickly). But I've only tried this one generic and I have no idea if it's a fluke.

When I'm out for a run - especially when it's warmer, I often use the Nike sport band that came with my Apple Watch (Nike edition), due to how sweaty I'll get. The sport loops are more comfortable, fit more precisely, and they look pretty good too, even if not as sporty perhaps. They do take time to dry, but they don't take an overly long amount of time. I have a fleet of them, so when one is drying, I have others to wear.
With respect to "disappearing" I think the sport band is tougher not to notice. It's always either slightly too tight or slightly too loose. I seem to be right in between. I don't have that problem with the sport loops. I like my watch to stay where it is, but I don't want it to cut off my circulation.

I like these sport bands for the price:

I wear them during my super sweaty workouts and clean them afterwards either by washing or with an alcohol wipe.
For the "sport loop", I only use the Apple ones and usually pick up a few when I can get them on sale.

The generic Loop one I bought didn't retain its elasticity after a few months
