Or for about $9 more (2 gallons of gas), buy the MX500 and get:
Better performance
Longer lifespan
Better reliability
5 yr vs 3 yr warranty
The school I work at purchased like 10 of these all 128gb. I installed them and they are all working fine except for 1 which shite the bed a few weeks after installation. Lexar support stated that because of China restrictions all they could to for us was refund to a PayPal account. We weren't looking for a refund but a replacement since we actually needed it.

Anyways cool story bro. Not sure if these restrictions are still a thing but something to consider.🤷 ♀️ Cheap enough to gamble on so who cares.

SP 1B for 58 dollars, double the space and about the same.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...OQJA&psc=1

OP Deal 512=37 x 2 = 74 doesn't seem to be a good deal.

Would this be terrible as a boot drive in an old laptop?

I do Internet and rip my CD's & DVD's to formats I can watch on my other devices.

Thanks!

Not at all, this is perfect for an old system that you don't want to put much money into.

True, but if you don't want to spend $70 for the 1TB, you're left with this for $35 or the Kingston which has worse reviews. This one only has one "bad" review on the first page of reviews which is that they got a fake, not that it's a bad drive.

The Crucial MX500 500G for $47 would be preferable, of course, but again, at more money but not that much more money.
The Team Group Vulcan Z is $59 for 1TB with, I think, good and bad reviews.

Of all I've mention, only the Crucial has DRAM.

In the $30-$40 range is a nice spot to be.
Now, I'm talking myself into the Crucial for $47.
I'm spoiled by the fact that I got a 512GB Samsung for $54 once. It was rare even then to get it so cheap.

I have some non-DRAM PNY, HP and Hyundai of 128GB and 240GB.
A friend tells me he has 128GB SSD's that fit Windows and Linux and some programs.

I always thought to have a boot SSD with DRAM and a platter HDD in the same laptop with the OS on the SSD and programs, desktop, and temp folder on the HDD to reduce reads and writes to the SSD but I need an SSD for a small laptop that fits only one drive.
I've been told I shouldn't sweat that an SSD has a limited number of reads/writes.
I've been told it should last as long as a HDD but since SSD's are more expensive than HDD's I've gone the SSD AND HDD route with laptops that accommodate two drives.

I could use my old DRAM-less SSD's I've listed above but perhaps I should go with this Lexar for more space or the Crucial since it has DRAM.
I could off-load work to an external HDD if a small boot SSD doesn't have much space for completed work.

I do Internet and rip my CD's and DVD's to file formats to use on my other devices.

It's odd that this Lexar is DRAM-less and is
regularly $62 on sale for $37
where as the Crucial has DRAM and is
regularly $60 on sale for $47.
