I have an Ideapad 5 Pro with similar specs and since 99% of what I do is in the browser, it's perfectly fine. It flies and is generally silent, even with 10-20 tabs open in Chrome. Now if I used Outlook on this machine, I'd definitely want more RAM, but I don't... Not everyone needs more than 8GB and while it's a bummer that Lenovo is doing the soldered RAM thing so often now, their pricing seems to justify it somehow.

  1. 16" convertible with an FHD+ display with respectable brightness
  2. 1080p font facing camera
  3. Despite being a bit outdated, still a good and powerful processor

How many 16" convertibles can you find esp at this price range? As far as I know, none. You have the HP envy, Lenovo Yoga 7, and LG gram which are substantially more expensive. Corners had to be cut somewhere and they chose the RAM to be one of them. Despite being soldered, it is the faster LPDDRx RAM.

This criticism on every 8GB RAM thread is kinda becoming frustrating tbh. 8GB RAM, esp the 4266 MHz type is very sufficient for most needs. I have one on my current laptop. I have at least 6-10 edge tabs (don't use chrome for obvious reasons) open all time along with multiple apps and my laptop hardly stutters, if ever.
If you need to game, do graphical work, or code, then yes you should look for 16GB of RAM.
Yes, having a soldered RAM fails to make it future proof to some extent.

Warning: I have this computer and I do not recommend, The hinges are horrible and mine broke after 8 months, they do not cover under warranty. Research the hinge problems and you will see all the complaints. Mine stayed at home on a table, one day I closed it which caused the hinge to detach.

The 2022 models released just 3-4 months ago. Didn't know you had a time machine.

I believe if they are going to put soldered ram they should put 16GB at least

That'd be nice, but as I said, not everyone needs more than 8GB and while it's a bummer that Lenovo is doing the soldered RAM thing so often now, their pricing seems to justify it somehow.
