If you were planning on playing online you would need Xbox live gold. If you have Xbox live gold that makes gamepass ultimate almost free (costs $1-$15 initially to upgrade all your gold time to GPU, up to 3 years worth). Forza Horizon is included in GPU.
Problem solved.
GPU also includes EA play. You can play Madden 21 and 22 for free right now. It includes a 10 hour free trial for Madden 23, which will eventually be added to play for free as well, typically 8-10 months after release. If you like the trial, they give like a 10% discount to purchase it. Besides EA, there are a lot of Ubisoft games on there currently, most MS 1st party games, most Bethesda games, and much more. Regardless of your preferred game style, there is something for everyone. Although if your only interest is Madden 23, probably not worth it for you.
NFL 2k4. Trust me

I heard if you sell the console and try to keep the game it creates a wormhole in the spacetime continuum. Wouldn't risk it.
You could but the market for series S is not that hot, doubt you would get this much for it. Has already been sold new multiple times for $250.
Yeah that's what I was thinking so probably not worth it.
I honestly don't see many huge improvements over my One S and "old" TV with the Series X and new one. Load times are a bit shorter, some games look a tad better, but nothing has been life-changing at all. If my One S hadn't been having a few issues here and there with external storage or I hadn't got the TV so cheap, I'd probably have some remorse.
EA killed football gaming in general. They killed burnout... They are just terrible... Then 2K decided to follow and kill basketball games...
Never buy sports games...

But I was in a similar situation a few years ago having not played Madden in 10+ years and fondly remembered playing franchise back in the day. I got whatever new Madden and ended up just skipping on franchise and playing Madden Ultimate Team (MUT) which is the newer thing albeit old now (Madden Mobile on console if you've tried that...if not, a game mode with card packs and fantasy team building and grinding activities).
It's fun to play along with the ongoing season since it has weekly promos matching up with what's going on during the season, holiday events, and they release progressively better cards/players throughout the season...so you'd need the new version. I had a good time playing that for a season...then I picked up Madden the next year and dipped out right away because I didn't feel like starting from zero and going through all the grinding again.
If MUT on console had multiplayer league vs league like on mobile...I'd probably give it another go. I don't think it had that when I played it...not sure if they ever added it. You could also just try Madden Mobile this year and if you like it try it (MUT mode) on console the next year. But yeah, outside of any interest in MUT mode, save the $70 and get a different game and/or play an older Madden.
