How does the geek squad refurbish a piece of solid state equipment with no moving parts?

I am willing to look at any refurbished products EXCEPT HARD DRIVES.

Except these are neither refurbished, nor hard drives. These are USED and re-packaged SSD's.

If an item is returned to the store for whatever reason after being opened, it can't be sold as new.

Refurbs are just bench checked by technicians to verify they work, which gets more attention than new.

I have been buying refurb items for years without issue.

If you buy one, just run that program to see how many hours it has been on, and how many times it was powered up. It should be near 0 on these.

I have purchased one last time it went on sale. Pretty look much looks brand new and mine was barely powered and written on. I used it to replace an old laptop hard drive, and it been running fast now. You get more out of this than other budget entry level drives around the same price range.

Can be some weird reasons. In my case, the used Samsung 860EVO 1TB can't be seen when connected to SATA1. So I connected it to SATA0. Suddenly, the motherboard saw it. All runs well. I guess someone returned it, because his PC/Laptop couldn't see it.

That's because your nvme was using some of your pcie lanes.
In your motherboard manual it will tell you what sata ports will be disabled if you connect an nvme hard drive.

I have purchased five or six of these Geek Squad refurbished Samsung SSDs (both SATA and NVMe). I always check them with Samsung Magician as soon as I received them. They have all been in perfect condition with less than 10 hours of use and less than 150GB of data written. To me, they seemed more like open box than refurbished drives.

Samsung warranty normally does not apply to any openbox/refurbs. However, I GUESS in this case this rule applies:
In the event that a valid proof of purchase is not available, the limited warranty period will be determined by the date of manufacture.

So, just say you don't have the receipt and they will go by date of manufacture.

see full warranty term:

The average consumer is pretty dumb when it comes to tech stuff, so let's say I tell a friend that on their laptop, their original hard drive has failed or that they have run out of capacity, so they run off to BB and buy a drive like this and then find themselves incapable of opening their laptop to install the drive or don't know how to reinstall windows or transfer their data or get bios to recognize drive. So they return the drive after they already opened in and Presto, you now have a no longer virgin drive at BB, so they sell it as refurb or open box..

Purchased a 1TB MX series refurbished drive from crucial over 12 years ago when $300 was superslick of a deal for a refurbished SSD. The drive still runs great.

I doubt geek squad does anything more than repackage the drive. I would pass on this. Get a NEW MX 500 1TB for 75.99 on amazon and you'll have yourself the most reliable drive you can get.

This Samsung SSD is superior than the quoted Crucial SSD in every single category. Now it's even cheaper in the price, albeit it may have 30 power-on hours and 20 GB written.
