Tripod is must to have if you want use those binoculars on star chasing trip with little kids. Magnification is great. You can see Jupiter with moons and Saturn with its rings.

Great binoculars. Not something you'd want to lug around on a bird watching trip, but it is a great alternative to a telescope -- or if you are lucky to watch rocket launches.
We recently added 20x80, and it's even better, but quite a bit heavier. Tripod is definitely needed for that one. Never needed it for 15x70 (and the main user is my fairly weak 13 year old).

Wow, good timing, I was just looking at picking up a pair of these 2 days ago. I mainly do astrophotography and was looking to pick up some binoculars to do a little visual while the big setup is imaging.

Not correct. These are quite decent for what they are: astro binos. 70mm objectives to gather light.
