It uses the same tech as the 2 gallon water jugs for the fridge, push to fill. If you want to idiot proof it, just fill up an old 5 quart, or the same 1 quart over and over, i dont care.

Damn, what a bargoon. My local Grainger closed down a few years ago and now the closest one is 3hrs away. I'd be all over this if not for $60 shipping on two boxes.

You math is off…

6gal = 4.8gal
?!?!?!? How?
The result of common core math. I'm surprised there weren't any animals or fruits with missing legs or seeds.

I'm not a paleontologist but we're talking generalizations here and the consensus is "no". Can anyone prove that not a single dinosaur turned into oil? Obviously not - but that's not the point. Go ahead and google it as I am doing - I could literally spend the rest of the day linking articles that say "No, oil doesn't come from dinosaurs."

This site goes into detail how we use the term "fossil fuels" and again, how oil is not dinosaurs.

https://www.powells.com/post/orig...-dinosaurs [powells.com]

The bad wiring goes something like this: Oil is fossil fuel, and most of it comes from the age of the dinosaurs. Fossils equals dinosaurs, therefore dinosaurs equals oil. But if fossil fuel does not come from dinosaurs, then where does it come from? Plankton.

Fossils fuels are just that — combustibles of ancient biological origin, preserved in rock. But they're not made of dinosaurs. There were never enough dinosaurs in the world to generate the Earth's great stores of oil. And dinosaurs lived in the wrong environment. They were all terrestrial creatures. Oil comes from decaying marine organisms.
My money is on Prehistoric Whales. They lived on on land *and* sea.

Damned oil soaked whales were everywhere way back when.

Must have had great suntans, too .

Interesting deal

I may not bite only because I'm not sure I want some Franzia box of 6 gallons oil in my garage open and leaking and it would take me a few years to get through it. I have been jumping on those Pennzoil 25 dollar rebate thingys where the price gets similar and I have a couple discreet 5 quart jugs to put on the shelf
Back in the day Pennzoil was the scourge of mechanics because it created tremendous sludge in the engine due to wax in the oil. Did they change the formula?

I think it's safe to say that all modern oils have changed their formula to meet current standards.

I so want to buy a few boxes of 0w20 or 5w20 to put this in a high mileage Sportwagen TDI commuter car. 30 weight not available, but probably fine since full synthetic. In before the "your chit gonna blow up" crew haha.
I would not use this oil in a TDI unless you deleted the DPF.

I assume Pennzoil always said that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still contain wax. It has to do with it being Pennsylvania crude oil which has the wax, and other oils (Quaker?) that use the same oil. When I was in the business we only used mid-continent oil, nothing from the NE. When we would pop a valve cover, we knew immediately it was Pennzoil or another Pennsylvania crude product.

Found this on the Bob The Oil Guy site:
"Pennzoil, and other oils like it, stopped being made of actual Pennsylvania crude in the mid-1960's. There is a 1979 article in Popular Science about using advanced extraction techniques to get more oil out of the Penn fields, and in that article they specifically say that Pennzoil and others 'haven't been made from Penn-souced crudes for ages'! Only oil these days, made from a 'significan't amount' of actual Pennsylvania crude is Brad-Penn oils, and even they use other basestocks in their base oil blends."

That same page had many references to the wax in Pennzoil. What I did find out is that they were bought by Quaker, and then later Shell. The other issue I had was the cans used to say, "Made from 100% Pennsylvania Crude", and then a sticker saying they had 7% additives. How can you be 100% crude AND 7% additives?

It is probably not wise to carry old grudges, but I do.

I'll subscribe to the cheap maintenance theory, within reason - that is, you could change your oil every 1k, it wouldn't hurt, but it probably wouldn't necessarily help, especially your wallet. An oil change with decent components on sale costs me around $35 plus an hour or so - changing every 3 vs 5 vs 10k miles - is the difference between 5, 3 and ~ 1.5 oil changes per year for the "average" driver (~ 14.2k miles/yr), or ~ $150, $100 and $60/yr (plus time)
Synthetic Oils are much better in high heat conditions. With the additives they have they also clean engine and do not break down as easily as conventional oil. The 3000 miles oil change was meant for cars 50 years back when engine tech, filter tech and oil tech were very different and cars needed frequent changes to run clean. At this point in time I feel it is unnecessary to change oil at every 3k or 5k miles.

Use good quality synthetic oil and change oil every 10k-12k. Thats what I do, except I change the Oil Filter every 5k-6k. So 2 filters through the life of 1 cycle of oil. It has served me well thus far.
