Our shop uses these type of ecoboxes. We're pretty heavy handed with them and they've never leaked. Some of them stay opened on the shelf for up to a year without issue.

I had not heard of this brand, so I looked at the Petroleum Quality Institute of America site. The additive packages look good for this oil:

While threads go on and on over at Bobistheoilguy, I would guess there really aren't that many modern vintage cars whose engines have seized up or blown up or whatever because they were using regular oil, let alone whether they were using "true synthetic" vs "almost true synthetic". If you are changing the oil according to the maintenance minder on your car, and you are using motor oil in the proper weight, I'm guessing most every car these days will have its engine last 150-200K miles easily. For many people, that is a long time of ownership of that car (we drive less than 7500 miles per year)

Mainstream? None.

Amsoil SS, Redline, HPL….


It's not so much "do I need true synthetic?" but more how the overall formula does. If a Grp3 mixed with a little PAO/ester does as good or better than a fully PAO/ester splashed with some Grp3, then eh.

The same way all the other organic matter did...sediment buildup and geologic activity. The distance under the surface correlates to the age of the deposit. The older it is, the further down you'll generally find it, with a few exceptions based on local geological anomalies. For instance, an ancient deep sinkhole may hold relics from a much later age than the surrounding soil due to things falling from the surface to the bottom of it. Tectonic plate subduction can also move things up and down, depending on which side of the subduction zone they're on.

Interesting discussion here; I'm learning more about motor oil than I ever thought I needed to know. At the end of the day, I'm thankful that there are some fairly rigid performance specifications in place by the likes of GM and SAE that generally keep motor oil quality at high levels, unless you're buying the dollar store brand. Slickdeals allows me to buy full synthetic for less than the regular price of bargain basement conventional oil; synthetic is all I run for the last 15 years or so.

A buddy and I used to have fun at the fast food drive thru...if the total was something like $8.83 I'd hand the window person a ten dollar bill and a quarter. You can actually watch their brain melting down in real time; their facial expressions are priceless.

How long ago were you in college? Cash registers that calculated change have been the norm for over 100 years. You push $10.25 and it shows $1.42.
