Edited to add that these clean up beautifully in the dishwasher.
"Is this hard plastic, or softer rubberized material?"
We bought two of the slow feeders from PetSmart with softer rubberized material (and an integrated metal water dish), and now wish we'd bought five or six of them.
Hey have to work harder for food in the hard plastic ones that everybody seems to sell now, and those seem more likely to get pushed around all over the floor.
And yes, several of our friend's pets have lost/cracked teeth on the hard plastic slow feeders.
As others have said, dishwasher is great for cleaning but because of the shape you can also soak it with soapy water easily which helps if food gets stuck on the bowl. My one suggestion before someone purchases would be to check the measurements because the one we got would be comically large for a smaller dog.
