Tempting, but unlock policy pretty sucks. In this case, I interpret the phone will be locked for 24 months - a huge hassle if you want to travel internationally without paying for their crazy high roaming fee.

Yep, which is very expensive if compared to buying an eSIM (only doable if you have an unlocked eSIM capable phone).

i dont remember details, but i think i got in trouble a while back...
i prefer not to use GV, simply because there are other options i mentioned for same $5 AMZ GC.
in fact , at least $5 goes to a SD'er , rather than Google..

oh. i already had gv number which i ported out and waitig for activation. i thought porting out is not easy with GV but looks like the main issue is getting GV number could be a problem.

Tried to checkout and at the last step when it asks you for DOB and SSN, I must have typed the wrong number and it gave me a message "Invalid DOB or SSN..." and it automatically logged me out and forwarded me to the home screen. Log back in and go the cart and see the phone there and click "Next" and it gives the same error. I tried emptying the cart and adding again...same error. Tried 3 browsers...anyone have a solution for this?

im getting the exact same error. i put in the wrong ssn by accident and now i cant add it. gonna stop by the xfinity store tmr

I tried again this morning and it worked. I think they store the SSN or something and it automatically reads from there instead of what you type into the form.
I read some other people having that message and no one at Xfinity could solve it so waiting and trying later might be the easiest route.
I was able to checkout fully.
