Agreed. The brushed motor on that flashlight is outdated technology. Only brushless for my future flashlight purchases.

I don't know that someone buying power tools at this level would notice or care really. Brushless will be a bit more efficient and last a bit longer but this is a set for the home or for a weekend warrior.

I got this set for this price and it included the 4ah battery due to the price hack that usually pops up. I use it for my freelance work and it's perfectly suitable for making holes in walls and drilling cameras to the walls.

I do IT consultant services which includes security camera installs for businesses and homes. I love using my Ryobi drills. Way better than the harbor freight drill I had before.

Great price!

But it's so irritating that Rigid and Ryobi are made by the same company but the batteries are incompatible. In my perfect world I could start off with Ryobi tools then upgrade to Rigid, then Milwaukie using the same batteries. Or have Ryobi for stuff I don't use a lot and milwaukee for stuff that's my day-to-day bread and butter but use the same batteries for everything.

I'm not sure what the "down side" of a system like this would be for TTi (the company that makes Ryobi/Rigid/Milwaukee). Yeah they might loose a few $$ with folks using cheaper ryobi batteries in Milwaukee tools but right now if I'm upgrading from ryobi it's just as easy to switch to Makita or Dewalt.

Remember the good old days when you can do the price hack and get the drill, impact driver, flashlight, jigsaw, 1.5ah and 4ah batteries and a charger for around $77?

That got me into the Ryobi ecosystem.

Ryobi and Rigid are kind of home depot exclusive brands. It is a tiered system. If they shared stuff, it would make the more expensive brands look cheaper. They also get to charge more for the batteries. Stanley black and decker does the same thing. You can't put a black and decker battery in a Dewalt. I feel like ryobi has a niche on non traditional tool stuff. I got 3 different fans, shop vac, blower, router and an inflator. Milwaukee doesn't have the same variety or would cost twice as much. If you are getting just traditional tools, then one brand might cover it all.
