Home Depot [homedepot.com] has a RIDGID 12 in. sliding miter saw for $280.12 using the Home Depot hack.

Choose the portable stand as your "free" gift and add both to your cart. You do have to choose the same shipping method. Either choose ship to home and return the stand to the store or choose store pickup and do the same. Also, some have had luck shipping to different stores and not picking up the one item.

For those wanting both, use thishttps://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../310390809 to get them for $399 but no hack available.

There is another thread https://slickdeals.net/f/16006507-ridgid-15-amp-corded-12-in-dual-bevel-sliding-miter-saw-ymmv?v=1&src=SiteSearch saying that they found this saw on clearance for $200 but it is YMMV

Sadly I heard the one manufactured by Delta doesn't include the lifetime warranty - just 5 years. It's definitely cheaper as a RIDGID though.

I have this saw along with the stand and would definitely recommend getting the stand because this thing is big and heavy. It is very well built and very smooth. Very little head deflection when the slide is fully extended, unlike the Delta-style Ridgid 12-inch slider (which has a ton of head deflection when fully extended - seriously you can get the head to deflect just by using your pinky. There are a few YouTube videos that cover it). I replaced a DeWalt DW715 with this for the slider functionality, and I like this one much better.

There were some issues a few years ago with blade wobble, but that has been addressed and any inventory with the blade wobble issue should be long gone. Even if you end up having the problem, you can call Ridgid and they will send you the part (I think it is a washer) to fix it.

Would this be overkill for the occasional diy homeowner?

Its really bulky and heavy. You gotta have a need to cut multiple boards larger than 2x6 to bring this out. I have a bulky clunky 10" saw and I tend to only use it on large projects. Anything that's a few boards I'll clamp a square to the board and use it as a guide with a circ saw.

If you are doing precision miter cuts for trim work, i'd do research on what the best saw is. So far as I am concerned, saw price is not a factor if you are an amateur doing complex crown moldings. Buy whatever it takes to make it more intuitive.
