From what I can tell, they changed it and you have to trade a working phone that's on their eligible list. That article is outdated based on what they had up last week which was full of typos, like saying the 6 Pro was "free with trade-in" then trying to charge you $50 for it.

At any rate both the V+ and the TCL XE cost more and from what I can tell the specs are identical between the three. It's probably fine for grandpa next time he drops his phone under the lawnmower or something though, I can't imagine any one is significantly better than the other.

Usually when they give away something for low price or almost free it's rarely a good product. This move is probably to get publicity for being generous at the same time get rid of junk that suits recycling waste better than used as a smartphone😏

True. I might think about it anyways just because I'm planning on sticking with T-Mobile for a while anyways and I need to upgrade my ZTE ZMax Pro from like 2017. I only use it to control some music/speakers in the house every once in a while since I can't cast Amazon Music to my Chromecast Audio devices with an iPhone.

Because the screen quality don't really matter in my use case I might look into it anyways. The ZTE has been acting up lately (disconnecting from casting, music stopping, etc.).

The move is to get people to lock into a no-contract "contract" for 24 months. Same reason they do bill credits for almost all of their promos. The difference here is they are luring suckers, I mean customers, to jump by dangling a crappy phone rather than an iPhone.

Where can I find the list of eligible devices for the trade in?

meh.. I'll keep t-mobile anyways.. 150 for 6 lines and coverage in several countries we travel to is hard to match even by MVNOs, free stuff is cherry on top of the icing

lock in to the crappy deal and then be in a rush to pay it off and get in on the better flagship deal

it always happens with tmobile

I hope they have good iPhone 14 deals.

9 lines for $50 per month here. That is not the point. My point was that T-Mobile is not doing it to be generous as another SDer suggested, they are doing these promos to lock down customers for 24 months.
