Saw an ad that OhmConnect has updated their welcome offer to a Wyze V3 Security Camera which seems to sell for around $30 at the moment or a JBL GO2 Bluetooth Speaker which is valued a bit less around $20! I was able to get my parents a much needed security cam by signing them up for OhmConnect and connecting their utility provider. They support a few other utilities for SoCal and NY residents listed in the Terms & Condition. Hope a few of you are able to score as well!
Sounds like those expensive ESCO energy companies. I always stay away from them after they charged me more than the local utility company.
nope. quite the opposite. they just have access to read your data with your electric company and reward you when you use more clean energy/less energy. you are still paying the same people you paid before you signed up.
i signed up last week and picked the straight up cash reward of $70 or something. this seems less good of a deal.
How far do I have to invest in this to get the camera? Can I sign up for information but not actually pay anything?
you dont pay anything.. they pay you. you can sign up and then turn it off when you get it (by not allowing them to read your energy meter anymore) but you always just get rewards from them if you conserve energy, you arent paying anything.
there are now a few companies that do this btw, ohmconnect is one of many. i learned about it when i installed my nest AC the other week. they let you pick which one you want to work with your electric bill and collect rewards by reducing electricity use during peak hours. i'm starting to sound like a sales rep but i just bought a house last week and i was doing all sorts of research on this
I've been with them for several years, and I've got to say the incentive system is a lot worse than it used to be. In the old system, with solar, I was able to make $50-$200 during their megaohm hours since the solar production counted as negative usage. Now I get around 1500 points for each hour of an ohmhour which translates into roughly 8 spins on their prize wheel, most of which are raffle tickets or referral boosts, which end up being worthless to me. For a while, about 10% of the wheel spins would lead to a free item, and I got about 50 smart plugs and 5 google mini speakers then, but I haven't gotten a free item in about 500 spins over the past year. That said I'm still with them. You get something for not much work, even if it's not as much as it used to be
This is not a "deal" by a long shot! This is spam.
I would never let a 3rd party monitor or dictate my utility usage,. Why would ANYONE give some random company control over your A/C or heating? You'd have to have the IQ of your doorknob.
But Grandma should unplug her hearing aid charger and power strips and set her AC to 82 to prevent climate change!!!!
She might want to if she's going to get $5 - 10 bucks kicked her way and it's only for a couple of hours.
Normally OhmHours are an hour and AutoOhms are 15 minutes. This week the OhmHours have been a couple hours. I've been cooling the house down right before the OhmHours and then completely shutting off the AC during them OhmHours. Earned enough this week to get another free Kasa Energy Monitoring Smart Plug! That's a $10 device for shutting my AC off for a few hours this week. Worth it for me!
