My 5 year old enjoys it and mostly understands how to use it with the switch controller. My 2.5 year old doesn't really understand it and is quickly bored.
Overall there isn't a ton of "game" to this. You can get a high score from just waggling the controller around without much attention to detail. It's more about an excuse to listen to music while dancing and moving along to silly music videos. For that aspect it's fun and probably worth $15.
What I don't like is just how many songs are locked behind their subscription, and how it keeps all these locked songs right in the front song selection page with everything else. My 5 year old is constantly finding songs that she wants to play but can't because we aren't subscribed. We don't really play enough to make a subscription worth it, so instead it becomes an annoyance. It feels a little mobile gamey or scammy. Not necessarily a deal breaker but it's worth knowing.

I know this is supposed to be made for kids, but who cares? We still have fun playing it.
You can basically remove all the subscription-related stuff if you only pick from the "Songs" tab (on JD 2020). It's $0.30 - $0.40 a song ($15 for 40+ songs) which is pretty good value, all things told.
And yeah like some others have speculated, each game comes with a list of songs. There's also an optional subscription which lets you play every older song released on previous versions. So buying this would get you like 30 songs or something…but you really want the subscription to go along with it. It's totally worth it if anybody enjoys the game - but that's hard to do without Kinect.
