$100? You get the cabinet part
$ 70 ? You get full huge 12" Celestion Speaker G12P (70/80). Much like famous G12T. See specs and costlyVOX etc... with them.
$250? You get famous 15W all tube amp built-in. Country to practically metal pre-amp tubes and EL-34 power tubes.

$420???? No..
$202 Hmmmm

Brand glorious new.

With some simple know-how It could be serviced, without having any new-tech replacement boards; that will not likely be supported or available long-term.

This thing goes from conversation level to playing with a loud drummer.

Gain goes from country to mid metal. Full Metal with a boost.

With a Katana one would have to bump up to the high price of the 100 MK2; in order to get a (simple) effects loop and comparable larger speaker. Then it weights to much compared to this tube amp. Katana's and this both are good though.

For me: The $35 rechargeable Cube Baby effects pedal works famously with this amp. I get boost, other pre-amp flavors, more gain boost and EQ. Modulation, time and feedback effects, more reverb and (USB loadable) cab sim IR's (like 4x12 Mesa). But I thought cab IR's were supposed to overly compress into a real guitar cab; but they don't oddly seem to here! And I haven't even put it into the effect loop yet (for the modulation effects).

Happy days

Man. I remember seeing this amp on Amazon for around $160 and like a dummy I didn't bite because why would I need multiple amps?

Dummy.

To be honest, as someone who owns and has modified a cheap Monoprice strat, I would recommend getting the Squier classic vibe strat that is on sale right now 50% off for $276 over the Monoprice at $60. (I, of course, would get both)

The CV strat at half off will hold its value - probably everything you paid at that sale price - and it has alnico pickups, better tuners, and a bone nut.

The Monoprice is ceramic pickups, generic tuners and a plastic nut, and minimal resale value (although at the $60 sale prices that come around frequently, that negligible).

I believe that was pre 2018 and $168 plus plus. I wish I'd bought one then too; but there are some improvements to the new model. They used to have a blue reverb tank and cheaper tubes.

But do you really think, after inflation; that prices will return to that level? I think this was $200 around 2018, (look it up). Typically you may not see a better price, for the coming "Black Friday BS" season. But we don't know,

There's a million videos about this and they all like it, a lot. Get it before they are OOS again.

Also Monoprice company has impresses me. With personal attention from THE manager first, about suggestions. And today I got a fast credit for the price drop difference. Pretty happy with them right now. Just saying; cause you know I'd rip a new one and tell you for poor service.

Oh and TECH SUPPORT help comes with this!

Would this pair well with the katana head?

Based on my tests with the digital modeling "Cube Baby" (not a power amp in it) multi effect pedal then YES! The 100 head and not Katana Air.

It would not be required, of course though.

This amp takes pedals effects very well (Don't they all. Ha!). Those for in front and those for the effect loop (looper and mod effects).

Both amps give LOTS of choices. You can just use the tube pre amp (or both), or you can just use the tube power amp. And it works well with an extension cabinet too(as does a Katana 100 head). You could even use the tube pre-amp through the Katana (with effects loop) solid state power amp. I think. Be careful though. Follow the warnings.

Do not hook your speaker-out to the combo. Use the effects loop connections. Line level only.

But you might get a pro cab instead/both; which was on sale for $169 on wish with $5 off and WISHNEWBIE for first time buyers. Ships from Monoprice. That's a Katana only system.

You can do both; maybe.

FYI, I plugged the pro V30 extension cab into this combo and besides it's 1db (a 5th louder) speaker, but it's bigger spaced 1x12 cabinet (of course) had a slight more depth. But the whole combo weighs less than the cab. LOL Guess which one I travel with; when there can be only one?

This video review is pretty entertaining:
https://youtu.be/fJcc_wM1ezU

Note: If you were touring then you'd have a backup with something for any amp; right?
Two of these will be $405 LOL.

I checked on the camels -- it was ~160 in Feb 2018. I remember getting a price alert and I just stared at it and convinced myself not to buy it. No, I don't really expect prices to go back down to that level. A decent 15W tube amp for 200 bucks? It's a great price, I just don't need another amp right now.

Yeah no GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). LOL. The combo is stellar and I just can't figure out why it doesn't make me play any better. LOL.

Thanks for this. I FINALLY pulled the trigger. I was pretty annoyed with myself last week when I let the HOT promo expire. Glad I was patient.👍

I remember these being much cheaper and thinking it was too cheap to be good. Now that it's $200 I want it. What is wrong with me?!

My 2017 with the slightly improved reverb still sounds great. One of the power tubes started to fail but just upgraded all of them. Fun little amp that loves a little dirt.

LT50 OK tones for practice but does not get as loud, wouldn't be best for recording, has no Speaker out, just line level, no effect loop. And the digital modeling is built-in so no app amends this. Unfamiliar speaker. And mainly it may not be supported well over the long term. Possibly more a disposable design.

But if you just want practice amp to each their own.

Used Katana 50's can be had for $150. Mk1's for less. If you are budget-ed under $200.

Best wishes.

P.S. A Celestion or better 12" sized speaker and specifically voiced for (mid range) guitar is the primary factor/difference in the sound chain. Among this group are hard to discern (EQ) differences; that may be well selected to (at default) complement the amp circuit's own voicing or character in effect. Other non guitar standard speakers will suffer. For slight break up to high-gain. It's at the highest gain you might notice slight nuances.

Fender/American clean chimney styles can do (premium) 2x10's; if you're into that, of course. I'm in the Marshall and at least some gain camp, mostly. YMMV.

Eight inch guitar speakers generally sound boxey.
