GIGABYTE Z690 AERO D LGA 1700 DDR5 PCIe 5.0 WiFi 6 10GbE LAN Dual Thunderbolt Motherboard $290

Amazon has a deal on the Gigabyte Aero D for $289.99. Retail is $419.99 & this is the cheapest price since launch according to pcpartpicker. This "creator" board comes with quite a few premium IO options including:
* Dual Thunderbolt 4
* 10Gbe LAN
* PCIe 5.0 x16 (or x8/x8)
* DDR5 support

The board is listed on Amazon as ATX, however, Gigabyte's website lists it as EATX since it is 1.5cm wider than a standard ATX motherboard. It still fits in some standard ATX cases though (fits fine in the NZXT 510 Flow).

This seems like a good deal if you want to make an Alder Lake or upcoming Raptor Lake build with very good IO options and support for PCIe 5.0 and DDR5.

Note: If you get a 12100 with a stock intel LGA 1700 cooler, the stock cooler might hit the heatsink on the rear IO causing significant noise when it spins.

And this has newer audio codec (only 2 channel though).

"USB 4" is based on Thunderbolt 3, this has Thunderbolt 4. There are some differences.

Just want to put my experience with this particular motherboard out there:
Found this one at a microcenter on sale for about 160. Thought it was a crazy good deal considering the z690 chipset and all the ports and stuff that came with it. Brought it home, installed it. Let me tell you i don't think i have ever experienced a bios this bad ever on a motherboard. Thing was buggy beyond belief, any updates available to it did not help either. For whatever reason this board made windows hang, the entire OS would freeze up when opening the task manager, and thing would bluescreen constantly. Thought it might have been a shoddy install on my part so i went in and reseated everything, including ram, cpu, graphics, all power cables, but nada. This thing was just so unstable for no good reason.

Would also like to point out that while there is no rgb built in, there are rgb headers for external devices, gigabyte aorus has to be one of the worst rgb controller software out there. Not only is that program buggy as hell, the options available are terrible, and no matter how you set them, every time you LOG OFF, not just restart, not cold booting, but even just LOGGING OFF of windows would reset all the rgb connected to a default rainbow. It doesn't save settings to the motherboard at all. Incredibly annoying.

Personally, i would pick anything else. MSI is my go to for 12th gen boards. Asus can be a close second. I base this entirely on bios stability in my own experience.

Both should fit, but you may have to remove the cable cover for the cable routing.

Here is a video of a build with 5000d and the MOBO that has the same dimensions as EVGA Classified: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kZXmsfKq30 (actual build starts at ~11th minute) and classified should fit even better because it has cutout where 24 pin power cable is connected. He had to grind into the cable cover to be able to use it, otherwise it interfered with the front USB-C cable.

There was an open box return at my particular micro center, that turned out to be empty, so they let me go with a brand new one.

One area where some people will benefit from is that Thunderbolt 4 can support 2 4k displays from one port while USB4 can only support one.

It will fit fine. I have a full ATX in a 5000D no issue.
