Southwest rules on Companion Fare:
https://www.southwest.c
The Promotional Companion Pass is valid from January 4 to March 4, 2023 and allows you to designate one person to fly with you, free of airline charges (does not include taxes and fees from $5.60 one-way) on flights purchased by you, from January 4 to March 4, 2023, booked through Southwest, and completed between January 4 and March 4, 2023. No Rapid Rewards points or tier or Companion Pass qualifying points will be awarded for flights taken by the Companion when flying on a Promotional Companion Pass or Companion Pass reservation. You may change your designated Companion up to three times while you have Promotional Companion Pass. If you earn Companion Pass in 2023 by earning 125,000 Companion Pass qualifying points or flying 100 qualifying flights, any changes to your designated Companion during the time you have a Promotional Companion Pass will reduce the number of changes you can make to your designated Companion in the 2023 calendar year. For example, if you earn a Promotional Companion Pass through this promotion, change your designated Companion twice during the validity period for Promotional Companion Pass, and later in 2023 earn Companion Pass, you would only be able to change your designated Companion one more time in 2023. Companion Pass is non-transferable.
Southwest flight credits:
https://www.southwest.c
Flight credits unexpired on or created on or after July 28, 2022 will not expire. No action is required on your part! If you have unexpired flight credits as of July 28, they will not expire and are available for you to use.

A RT ticket is just 2 one-way tickets if you want to look at it that way (which also qualify). The number of stops in between don't matter as long as you start and end where your ticket says you should.
I.e. ATL --> LAX with 2 stops in PHX and LAS is the same as ATL --> JAX nonstop as a "one-way ticket". RT would be ATL --> LAX --> ATL or ATL --> JAX --> ATL.
but I will tell you, if you had an ATL --> LAX one way with 2 stops and you decide not to continue to LAX (aka you get off at PHX or LAS and don't complete the final leg) they may not count that. It has a term, can't recall what it is, but it's "illegal".
But you could book a one way ticket like ATL --> PHX and then book a separate ticket PHX --> LAX and that would be two one-way tickets.

If we have 2 children, 7 and 3, is it best for both of us parents to register for this promotion, and then get our kids registered as companions?
The other way I thought I could fly and make my spouse my companion, but then we'd be paying for 2 more tickets when we fly. Didn't make sense to me. Am I missing anything?
Thank you.
Qualifying flights include flights paid entirely with dollars, LUV Vouchers, gift cards or travel funds, and with no portion of the purchase price paid for with Rapid Rewards points.
Can we book a travel with the RR points, then cancel the reservation and get the refund int he form of a travel funds towards a future travel. Then use the travel funds + some cash to make a new reservation? I know it's an extra step but do we qualify??
