It does, fat in particular which slows digestion.

I'm Type1 diabetic with a CGM (constant glucose monitoring). Consuming 60g of isolate protein will still spike my sugar levels after an hour.
But 60g of same protein, with some fats (10-20g) (from fish/chicken) will make that spike more of a hump, and over several hours.

Because this has sugar, It'll spike my sugar levels a bit... so I'll mix in some psyllium powder to slow absorption down.

Been low-carb (not KETO however) for a year+ now... lost 40lb, back to my college weight and feel great.

Anyhow.. giving this a try. Smilie

I hate this protein powder, at least the vanilla version. The smell makes me sick, it's like a combo of chemicals and rotten grass. And the taste for vanilla is very strong. I used half scoop in a ninja creami protein ice cream recipe. Just basically mango slices, sugar substitutes and milk. I forced myself to eat half of it then threw it away. Maybe in an actual smoothie with berries the taste can be masked a bit but didn't like it as protein ice cream
The vanilla tastes like vanilla. 😂

Wow, that's terrible. I've never had this one before and have only used Garden of Life so far. if you've tried GoL, how does that compare?
I have tried both I'm not sure what the dramatic reaction in the post you are responding to was about. Garden of life is similar to Vega. I think it has to do with what a person is used to. For instance the person who complained about Vega mixes protein shakes with ice cream. Protein powder is not candy, chocolate doesn't really taste like chocolate etc 😂. Some protein powders are better than others for sure but does anyone really drink a protein shake as a treat? Anyway I prefer Garden of life over Vega but not because of the taste it's because I prefer the ingredients.

Fellow t1 here. I think it varies from person to person, I get no significant spikes after eating protein of any kind

The Stevia in this is overpowering. Tastes beyond gross.

It's very common to use flavored protein powder as a substitute for things like cocoa powder, sugar, etc, when cooking, baking, or making smoothies. This includes low calorie ice cream (or "nice cream"), as well as many items, particularly in the low-cal high-volume eating space. Protein brownies, cookies, bars, energy balls, pancakes, etc. It's not as nefarious or strange as you may think tbh.

I was intending to bake with this, but based off of your "chocolate doesn't really taste like chocolate" comment, it sounds like it may be no good for that. Do you feel the taste wouldn't be suitable for something like low cal, high protein brownies? As a comparison, ON whey and casein are solid for this task, but the ingredients are of course very different, especially with this being a pea protein.

Cheers!

I drink it not as a "treat" but make the best of it by adding some low carb berries. It is exquisite btw. I don't know about ice cream but the shakes come out fantastic. 🤤

The soy argument has been debunked multiple times. Plus this thing has mostly protein from peas, soy would be more of a texture in this case.

Coupon worked for me, but Vega has a reputation for having heavy metals in its protein powder.

Exactly, I never considered using protein powder for baking or cooking previously now that's what I mainly use it for. I use .5 scoop for protein pancakes/ waffles, Ninja creami pint ice cream recipes, edible cookie dough, donuts, brownies, etc. There's lots of recipes on YouTube, social media. I switched to quest whey- casein blend, usually buy it whenever it's around $20 or less. A basic recipe is usually protein powder, egg or egg whites, protein powder, maybe all purpose flour or oat flour , sugar substitutes. And I also combine it with store bought pancake/ cake mix
