Thanks for linking, my friend …
Also anyone who knows cars knows an intake really isnt the place to add power. A custom tune goes a much longer way and usually costs less than a CAI.

they do not filter as good as the stock paper filter, plus add in the fact most owners do not properly clean and oil the filter either makes it worse. Most that do clean, oil the filter too much and then get a oil film on the MAF which creates other issues.
We use them on race cars and some turbo applications but these engines typically do not see high mileage so they will not suffer from the added particles in the oil. I used to use them on daily drivers and one could noticeably see the dirty oil vs stock paper filter after 5000 miles.
Lastly, modern cars typically do not have restrictive air intakes unless it is by design to reduce noise. Car companies are not going to leave any HP sitting on the table except for rare occasions when say a entry level vehicle shares the same engine with a premium model so they might de rate the lower models engine but that is also usually done in software, not by intakes or exhausts.
Lot of people down them I've never had the first problem except for one that was a factory dud
.
Called k&n about it they documented it said that if my engine failed in 250k, they would cover it providing I could provide service records.
That was 11 years ago.
Engine is still running like a bat out of hades, no problems.
A large amount of the abrasive particles is actually a by product of combustion and that's carbon after fuel is burned and engine oil flash off from pcv system.
The don't filter as well as paper, but I've seen plenty of completely worn out ring sets and valve faces with paper filter too.
I used to be all about KN or AEM for non oiled filters. fact is, when I tore down airbox's and engines, it was always damn dirtier and slimier than OEM set up. you may get 1-3hp, but you are letting a crap ton of dust through. it just isn't worth it unless you need all the hp you can get.
to top it off, cleaning them annoying, oiling not a big deal, and if you guys have a MAF sensor, buy AEM instead. its the non oiled version.
but you really should just buy oem people. my mustang had KN as well, and man, it ate bugs up. hated pulling it out and washing it, all he pleats had tons of flies and bugs etc I had to fish out with a small soft brush. still tedious.
also, my man here straight does testing.
