The Sony XM5 is also very different than this one, especially when it comes to sound signature. And the price you're talking about with the XM5 is for a refurbished version.
FWIW, I actually own both, as I'm a reviewer for his kind of thing.
At $250, this is a pretty solid deal for this model, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid pair of general use headphones. (Unless you have tinnitus and are bothered by ANC. In that case, don't get this one because you only have 2 modes: ANC or Aware. No "all off" option.)

Hmmmm I have AirPods pro and do have tinnitus. I do notice it a bit louder or more present after I use them for a long time. I don't have them playing loud, under 50 %.
Is ANC known to aggravate tinnitus!?
I have the 700 and QC35. In terms of music, IMO the 700 is vastly inferior and sounds like a $100 headphone.
Wanting to know the same. My super old QC 35's are still working fine with replaced ear cups, but I'm still interested in these.
You can get a replacement... for free
Just go through the bose website, go through the chatbot. It will try to direct you over to getting a QC45 for a "discount" of $100 less.
Instead, connect with a representative, and tell them that's unacceptable. They will replace it with a QC35 II for free.

My original Bose Noise Reduction Headphones were made of cheap plastic which soon fractured. The Quiet Comfort I purchased a year ago were overloaded by a modern quiet jet taking off and adds to the jet noise rather than canceling it. Foolish me for beieving Bose Hype. My Sony noise canceling headphones work as advertised.
.
Their flagship headphone is the 700. It offers a sleeker, more modern design, and a more neutral sound profile. These have a more accented sound curve, especially up high, which some prefer and some don't, and a bulkier, plastickier body that doesn't look or feel as premium, but folds flatter and many find more comfortable. Both offer all the same features.
All said, the 700 may be slightly better in sound quality and build material. But I doubt its $100+ better for most people. As always, depends on individual budget and priorities.
However, there is some weird issue with the bluetooth where it will occasionally pick up interference which is translated into audible crackles and pops. I suspect it is linked to my logitech mouse/keyboard receiver, which makes sense but I feel like shouldn't be an issue with $300+ headphones. The issue certainly isn't present in other cheaper headphones.
I'll probably go for the Sony XM5's, though I will say that $250 for the QC45's is very enticing
Between the two, I like the QC45 better. The NC700 is 2-3 years old at this point, though, and considering the QC Earbuds 2 just got an update, I'd expect the NC700 to get an update sometime within the next year.
1. there is constant crackling noises and choppy audio when paired to two devices but with only 1 playing (QC 35 II do not exhibit such problem).
2. they are much heavier and clamp on head much more; ears literally sweat after prolonged usage (QC 35 II is better in all aspects)
3. the touch controls are very difficult and unnatural to use (esp. volume up/down swipes) as there is large delay in touch response (QC 35 II wins)
4. single-hand adjustment of bands is almost impossible (QC 35 II wins)
5. when taken off the 700 cups bang very hard and scratch into each other (QC 35 II wins). I resorted to use the small foam divider that shipped with them.
6. the 700 case lacks back pocket (super-helpful for travel, QC 35 II wins)
7. the 700 battery life is worse (QC 35 II wins)
the headphones make distracting sound notifications while pickup or ending phone calls, or when phone call goes to VM (QC 35 II wins, they don't)
Given this feedback, I wrote to Bose I got recommended the QC 45 but with those Bose decided to remove the "Low" NC level compared to QC 35 II which was really useful in windy conditions... so, I'm back to purchasing another pair of QC 35 II for me.

I recently ordered a pair to use with my computer for Teams/Zoom calls and with my phone via a lightening to headphone jack converter. They're kind of pricey, but if you're patient, you might be able to catch them on sale. I did.
P.S. Military/Veterans can get them for $150: https://www.shopmyexcha
Bought the QC 45 on Prime Day for $229. Have not had high-end / NC headphones before.
The NC is either on, or "pipe sound in" (not technically "off") - it doesn't make outside noises LOUD, but it's also not as quiet as if you just had nicely insulated headphones with no NC.
The NC is good, but not amazing. I really enjoyed them on a flight, blocking out the steady roar, but things like a loud noise in a movie (on home TV) or a dark barking come through loud and clear, and sometimes if your head is to the side, the NC effect is extra unpleasant.
The connection to multiple devices is a blessing and a curse. If I don't disconnect my computer, and then go to another room and try to listen to stuff on my phone, it'll sometimes squelch or crackle from time to time.
The app is slow and very mediocre, so if I don't turn off my computer's bluetooth, I have to be super patient, load up the app, wait 5-10 seconds for it show my headphones connected, click through, click to Sources and uncheck my computer as a connected device. It may or may not stay disconnected.
Overall I do LIKE them. They are comfortable, sound good for what I use them for, and cancel enough noise that I can use them while my spouse watches TV, or in meetings while a window AC is running.
