For anybody out there like me who needs their hand held through the assembly process, here's a video of a guy giving a how-to using this exact bike (well, his is the one with the dropper post but other than that they're identical). It really helped me out (even though I still managed to screw up something...that wasn't his fault):

Damn, I am getting mine delivered today for my fiancé and I am really hoping I get a medium for her. Large is slightly too big but it's such a good deal I got it anyways. If you were in AZ I'd happily swap if I get a large.

*edit* nvm they are all large and the M stands for men's I guess. Oh well.

Its a LARGE. Effective top tube is NOT what he measured. My kid is 5-7 and he tipping, I ride a large Cannondale Trail and the fit on this is almost exact the same. I'm 6 foot. I ordered a Blue large Axum for $400 in July and returned. Again same fit. Have you wife try it out.

It is a LARGE,

measure the ACTUAL Seat Tube.

"center of fork stem to center of seat tube" is NOT effective tube, Your measuring the ACTUAL seat tube, that is going to be shorter. The bike is a large. Unless you extended the seat and measured a LEVEL line from the top of the head tube. Too easy to mess up the measurement, just measure the seat tube. FYI My 5 foot 7 inch kid needs another inch or 2 to even get on it without leaning it over. It's a big bike, just like my large Cannondale.

Unfortunately (?) the barcode on the bike corresponds to the "Large" Axum I've ordered...so they've stopped having two of them? They only have one and is the 420mm top tube? UUUgghhhh.

Your link clearly shows the "Seat Tube C-T" is a definitive measurement. I got mine today (also a "29 M") and simply opened the box and measured the frame. It's easy to see it's the large 19" (not the 17" medium DP frame). Ordered Friday morning, shipped Saturday night, arrived Sunday at noon without bent rotors either. I tried it in the store. I'm 6'2 and 34.5 inseam. Kind of felt alright.

It felt aggressive for me though. I used to ride Giant anyroad2 and giant talon 29er, Trek 4700 previously so there is that.

I've never assembled a bike before and as I was trying to put the steering handle on, my steer tube fell out, along with all the spacers which spilled onto the ground. Now I have ZERO idea on where these go or in which order they go in. Obviously I was negligent but it's still crazy to me there's no instructions on how / where/ in what order to put these in. I guess I'll take it to a bike shop or just return it to Walmart.

Its still good for climbing, literally the best climbing bike Ive had out of the box.

You should read the Decathlon thread. Someone returned the bike because after riding for a while the rear tire had a slow inner tube leak.

Generally I would 100% agree with you, but with the super easy Walmart returns, it can make sense to roll the dice and order a second one rather than deal with the repair. I got an ebike from Walmart. The plastic disc/sensor for the electric assist was loose, so the elector motor function didn't work. I could've repaired it (somehow), but I ordered a whole new bike and returned the old one. I didn't have to pull off crank arms, etc. Worth it to me.
