There are so many uniquely shaped and colored pieces and huge body panels in each set. It seems like technic has just become an expensive version of those snap together model kits I used to do before I was old enough to use plastic model glue.

Edit: hah, I was curious to see if they still make those snap model kits (they do) and it turns out some of them even use lego compatible connections as their build method! https://www.amazon.com/Airfix-J60...00PPPSZIO/

So it does indeed seem like technic and those snap model kits are well on their way to meeting at the same middleground

The body panels are like.... Less than 5% of the build. The gearboxes, transmission, suspension, steering etc are hundreds of pieces and the main reason to build anything technic. If you want closer to the look of something you'd probably want creator sets which are mostly brick elements and generally look "better"

The 4x4 seems awesome, but I wish it had a regular remote control. I would rather not give my kid my phone every time they want to play. Are there any Lego sets that are motorized but don't require phones to operate anymore?

I ordered the Ferrari on the 20th and it just got delivered today. That is the fastest Zavvi shipment I've ever had.
