Ok, so I am a Tmobile customer right now. I have no real interest in using Google Fi, what are my steps here?

My tmobile sims are in s21 of which I have 2, but I need to keep the new s22s active? What do I do with my tmobile sims?

The TIV is too good to pass up, someone please help this newbie out do this as seamlessly and cost efficiently as possible

or is number porting my only option?
Best option for you..

Get Get Google Voice numbers and port that to Google Fi.

Once you get the new phones activate them with the fi sims.

Then the fi sims can be removed and the tmobile sims put in. Keep fi sims in a drawer and cancel fi service after 4 months.

Fi phones come unlocked.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for the esim question since I have never done it myself on Google Fi.

However, I know people who ordered phones from Google Fi usually just activate the Google Fi service, then immediately replace the Google Fi with their own carrier sim after that since the phone is unlocked.

This works because the promotion terms only required you to activate the phone on Google Fi and keep the service active for 4 months. Basically, as long as you pay for 4 months (either with Google Fi credit or with your credit card), they don't care whether you make call/text or use the data at all. The only thing you cannot do is to put the Google Fi sim to another phone because that will associate your account to a different imei, which violated the promotion term that required 120 days consecutive service on the phone.
I just got off a chat with Google fi representative. I clarified if the promotion is tied to a phone and its IMEI? The answer was no. The promotion is tied to Google Fi email account and not to a phone and its IMEI number. As long as you activate your Google fi service under the same email address, on which phone was bought, you are good.

I also asked for clarification on pausing the service while in 120 days. I was explicitly told don't pause the service until you have completed 120 days. Otherwise it will void the promotion.

Trade in value at bestbuy for S21 is 800. S22+ is usually at 800 with activate later option. I got S22+ with flip3 trade in (same trade in value as S21) and paid only sale tax.

I understand you have chatted with the representative, but based on what people had reported in the past, I don't think the rep is correct. I have heard people having their promotions voided when they put the Google Fi sim into a different phone. It is up to you to decide who to trust, but I am just speaking based on what I have seen on the Google Fi deals during the past 2-3 years.

If you want to see what people had reported in the past, you can read through some of the replies on this thread: (I searched using the keyword void on that thread)

You are missing the point here. Google Fi is offering lower trade in value, but their phone is also a few hundred bucks cheaper even if you added the cost for the service.

For BestBuy, S21 has a trade in value of $800 but the S22+/S22 Ultra is $800/$1000. Here, the S21 has a trade in value of $625 but the S22+/S22 Ultra is only $400/$600 + cost of service.

If you have a S21 (and not any other phone), it is still cheaper to do the Google Fi trade in vs the BestBuy trade in.

Edit: Fixed some sentences/wordings/grammars, etc.

The S20 Ultra is also pretty good ($610 TIV, I think). You can find them used for not too much -- just another option. There are also a couple others that have pretty good TIV compared to their cost, IF you want to buy a cheaper phone.

The trade-in criteria from google seems to be that there are no cracks in the screen and the phone powers on -- does anybody have experience to confirm this? I'm thinking that if that's all that's required, might as well use a lower grade phone for the trade-in. Phones with bad shadows on the screen, lots of scuffs, etc, can be had for a lot less. But I wouldn't want to have a phone get rejected... Any thoughts?

Google has a faq page for the trade in program,
https://support.google.com/fi/?hl...ic=9808723

Similar to most phone trade in programs, it is always YMMV because it really depends on the person who is inspecting the phone. Some of them may let a lot of things slide but some others may nitpick on every small detail. I don't remember where I have read it or whether it is for Google Fi trade in, but I recall someone saying Grade A or Grade B phones are typically good for trade in; and Grade C phones will normally give you issue during trade in.

Thanks, that's a good point. On further checking I found this:
Quote :
Devices will fail LCD inspection if they have any of the following
Cracked Screen
Damaged Screen
Burn-in
Bruising (may appear as dead pixels or spots of discoloration)
Pixelation
Delamination
Unresponsive Screen
Which is quite a bit different from the "is the screen cracked?" question they ask when giving the "estimate". In fact, it's enough different that I would call it a bait-and-switch level of dishonesty. I wonder if they'd at least give you the "cracked screen" value if you had some minor burn-in or a single dead pixel on the screen.

Oh, and another big one -- they give you nothing if they decide your battery has "swollen". And they won't (can't) return the phone to you. You just get nothing.

Yes im slightly worried about the 0 value if you get turned down. Last thing i want to do is buy an s21 and then have it get turned down..then i would have to try and return BOTH phones if thats even possible at that point

What's the easiest option to get a phone # to port in? Porting in seems to be required for this offer, right? I saw above that Google Voice was mentioned, but since they're the same company can anyone confirm this worked in the past for this type of deal?
