It's a decent TV but we are less than two months from black friday season. I don't doubt $550 could get you a much better TV or something like this will hit 400.
The rumors of panel overproduction are real...so hold if you can
I used to think that. I believe that with only a very few exceptions there aren't great deals on Black Friday except for low quality TVs. The real TV bonanza period is January and early February for Super bowl time.

Yeah, model SKUs are often slightly different around Black Friday too. Black Friday is typically when you find the Android TCLs at a lower price than the Roku, and you get TVs with fewer inputs. They cut costs on their end and then don't communicate to the consumer exactly what's different and how they're able to go on such a good sale.
Android TV is superior in so many ways. The only people that complain about it are people who use it on entirely unpowered hardware. However, this is not most people's faults. TV manufacturers really should have to have a standard minimum requirements to use Android/Google TV like Roku requires.
Exactly. It's the cheap processors on the low end TV's that causes lag. Google TV on my Sony TVs is fantastic.
I absolutely hate Roku. it's clunky and I hate the remote.

Agreed. Android/googleTV on TCL was horrible. (bought and returned). This is not a statement of one OS vs. the other, only that the included CPU (by TCL) was not well matched to the demands of Android. I am personally glad to see them switch back and will wait for some BF deals.
Even Roku becomes useless after awhile. I have a few years old series 6 and now have to run a separate Roku to make it tolerable. I think I am less and less on board with smart TV's They are great for a few years, but eventually updates will ruin the experience.
That's just the TCL. I have 2018 and 2019 6 series and they are SLOW in the menus. Have a 2019 budget Hisense R7 that cost < 200 on Roku which has to be at least 3 or 4 times as fast. But at the end of the day it is trivial to just upgrade to another streamer stick as you've done.
Thank god they went back to Roku. Thanks OP, TU & REPPED
They didnt go 'back' to Roku.....TCL offers both ROKU and Android TV models because Android TV does some things that Roku cannot which many customers prefer.
I own both and like to have the choice as needed.

I don't think it was over production. I think it was more of the lower end models sitting in the ocean for a year because of the port issues etc. Now the retail stores have 1 year old stock along with the new models.
