Anecdotal, as all reviews are, but bought 6 of these (256GB version) about a year and a half ago and installed them in some Dell Optiplex PC's that were being donated to a local library. All of them are still working today. All disks can fail, which is why you should have multiple copies of your most valuable data.
You can check my post history. Nobody's paid me a dime, I just defend products that I really like and trash talk products I've had issues with. My trash talk lead to Red Pocket mobile refunding me a couple hundred dollars for a situation they did me wrong on, so I think it's important to let other slickdealers know about good and bad products on here. I.T. and home theater is my career and I have built and upgraded hundreds of systems, Teamgroup is my go to for bang for buck in most cases. If I had issues with their products, I'd be on here letting people know about it.
I've been through hundreds of Teamgroup SSDs in my builds for customers and personal use. I've replaced more Samsungs (and a surprising number of Sandisks) than Teamgroup SSDs.

Im replacing a HDD with a SSD in a HP laptop that came with windows 10. I'm not cloning but doing a fresh install on the SSD. AFAIK from researching, it seems the windows license is actually tied to the machine (in the bios or something).

So from my understanding and what I've read. I should be able to install the new SSD in the laptop and then install Windows directly from a USB.

I'll update once I get around to it, but it looks like you won't have to mess with the old drive if you just want a fresh windows on a new drive.

Some may recommend Rufus to make the bootable USB.. and both do have pros and cons but if you are beginner go with the Microsoft tool.

Here is the link for Microsoft media creation tool and instructions:

Thanks. I was not sure if it was tied to the bios/machine or the combination of HD and machine. I have heard swapping out a drive can be an issue on some Windows 11 machines, but I have not researched it yet.

I believe that I would need to purchase a copy of Windows 10 to do that or can you get a copy from Acer? The licensing keys in the machine details, are they accurate and I only need to copy the key information and do a reinstall?

My wife had a Lenovo that was baptized with Coke or Pepsi and fried. So I was hoping to salvage the disk as it is 500 or 750 GB instead of the 250 that came with the Acer. I need to pull it again and see what kind it is. I believe it is a M2, but do not know the format/shape.

Are people recommending this case or something else. I looked at the Sabrent that was recommended and there were a number of low rating.
What is your Acer anyway, a laptop or desktop? About 2 years ago I upgraded the SSD on my HP desktop from 256 GB to 1TB.
Since it was relatively new I did a fresh install from thumb drive image like poster #41 in this thread mentioned. Like they mentioned I think the Windows key is tied to the Bios or motherboard or whatever.

SSD is very cheap in China right now. Because they figured out how to make it.

They are a Taiwanese company just like Asus.

Does this fit in am enclosure and used as a portable drive?

Yap, just get one that can take NVMe or NVMe/SATA. There are some with dual standard support. I personally like Plugable fast, reliable. Just use slices of the cooling silicon please. Those get hot with large file transfers and cooling pad is also going to preloang chips life a bit longer.

Have you tried Macrium reflect or Acronics (spellings). They are good disk imaging softwares. Still might be free for personal use. I have used them a log with windows, windows server platforms, but not yet with 10 or 11.
Please let us know if it works. Thanks.

Sorry, Acronis Disk Director. Or variants from OEMs like WD, Samsung etc. They are free and not "usually" locted to the brand. So it can be used with lots of manufacturers drives. They just brand them but it's all Acronis. This way you can just clone drives directly with out losing licensing for Windows.

I presume you would need to use something like this to clone. Other users can correct

Perfect suggestion, you get two birds with.. You know the rest. You get cloned larger drive for your laptop or PC and a small portable one.

Thanks. I purchased this from slickdeals: https://slickdeals.net/f/15951418-acer-factory-refurbished-aspire-xc-1660g-uw92-slim-desktop-i3-10105-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-win-10-202-39?src=SiteSearch

I bumped memory to 16gb and it runs fine. I may not ned more than 256 GB since I will have another drive in there at some time soon. But I have a larger one from a Lenovo laptop that might fit.

Based on an Amazon review [amazon.com]... the write speed went down 75% after 11 months. Hard to want to take a chance when stuff like that happens..
