I have these and they work great after flashing tasmota onto them: https://github.com/kendallgoto/switchbota its a little tricky but for anyone running any automation or homeassistant, its really nice to have them be all local.
If you're going to use it to power cycle your modem, you can always run a scheduled script on Tasmota that pings Google every so often and then toggles the plug if it can't be reached.

Last I checked, Tasmota doesn't include the "ping" function by default, so you'd have to compile your own or find a precompiled firmware.

There's a premade modem restart script floating around as well.

Thanks for the tip! I picked up a pack to tinker with and hopefully replace my current cloud-based ones with.

Run locally over wifi? I didn't even know that was a thing.

This is tempting. My wemo switches are prehistoric in smart home tech terms.

I had some old zigbee smartthings ones that kept borking up the rest of my zigbee mesh. Went to these with tasmota paired with mqtt and HA has been super nice.
