You can trade-in these (non-Fire) to Amazon for a massive 25% off coupon for a new kindle, plus you get a flat credit added to your account. I did this last week with a kindle Paperwhite (2016) and got $25 and the 20% coupon, was able to get the latest Paperwhite Kids down pretty low

Remember that the battery is likely at least four years old. They do degrade over time.

Still a good deal and the eInk (regular and Paperwhite) will probably be fine, but the old Fire tablets may not hold a charge for long (hence the... uh... "Fire" sale).
IMHO, if he's already an iOS user, I'd just get him an iPad. Dealing with aging parents myself, it's a lot easier to have a single OS to teach them how to do things than to have separate systems with buttons and icons all in different locations.

Nice price on the Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet (2018, 8th Gen). $5 less than last time unless the conditions were better then. Thanks Hero1711.

Kindles get 20% off with trade-ins (not 25%) .
But yes, if you wait 10 days for Amazon's Early Prime Access sale, the Kindle kids should be about $75 after coupon, plus whatever value Gift Card Amazon gives you for your Trade-In.

Bought a couple 2015 models at $29.99 a few weeks ago for two of the kids for Christmas. Just bought a couple more at this price of $19.99 for the other two. :-) Use calibre-ebook.com to find and convert classic books.

Grabbed a 2015 Paperwhite for $20. It's not clear yet if the Kindle Scribe will allow for any trade-in discounts, but if it does I'll probably trade it in towards that.

Looking to buy this for my dad. He is not tech savvy and would have no idea how to use this which means that I would have to blindly teach him from 2K miles away. Any idea if this is possible? It takes me about 20 minutes to fix something from here on his iPhone using texting and calling. I am thinking of sending him a cheap one to play with since it is a much bigger screen and he can see it easier than his phone.

Thoughts on the ease of figuring this thing out on his own???
