I don't know about those who want to Hodl. From what I've seen these heavily discounted cards deals gone pretty quickly. Seems like a good demand. I personally don't expect 6900xt to drop below 600 like some mentioned. I will be the first one to jump on it.
Amd has driver issues, windows keeps overiding AMD drivers which sucks. If you turn any settings on in their Radeon software the picture quality looks terrible so I turn everything off. This is experience with 6800xt, looking to switch back to Nvidea, after all these year the amd driver issues have not been solved which is crazy to think about
Have this card, bought it back in May for $749 from Newegg and from XFX as the official seller.
I upgraded from a 3060TI which is now my wife's card since her 980TI died.
I feel no regrets after the official AMD price drop and I think $699 for this specific card is already a good deal. I usually simp for Sapphire if I roll with AMD, but XFX and this card has impressed me. I will be very surprised if we ever see $599 on the card but then again AMD seems to be more consumer friendly versus greedy big green.
It does sounds like a jet engine for certain games like Satisfactory, but it's performance is around +20-40fps gains from my 3060TI at 1440p ultra settings and that's on my G-Sync monitors.
I've never had Freesync monitors since my last AMD card was a blessed Sapphire R9 Tri-290X, but I've read that G-Sync monitors can be iffy and I do see driver issues with my monitors that can be fixed with a restart. So that's annoying and currently saving for some decent Freesync monitors.
Lastly, for those who are swearing by DLSS with Nvidia cards, idk what they are seeing. With my 3060TI, I have been unimpressed with DLSS and stopped using it. I certainly don't care for it and don't miss it. With Nvidia touting DLSS 3 for its higher end cards in the 4090 series, I think they are now making it more for high end?? Which is the opposite of when they originally advertised DLSS and making older cards run games better so 🤷
That's a reassuring experience. My upgrade starting point is more akin to your 290X, as I'm coming from an RX570. Became interested in an upgrade at the wrong time so the wait has been real. Have you had any transient spikes from this card? What PSU do you use?
Well here's my take. Windows will sometimes install default video drivers upon initial install. This happens on both Nvidia and AMD cards and is strictly a Windows issue. You can turn this off but it's not super straightforward.
However I've never heard of Windows going back and overriding existing drivers. Doesn't mean this doesn't happen in rare cases but I've never experienced it.
i thought i wouldn't need to think about this but would my 850W PSU be able to handle next gen GPU of equivalent tier (7900XT or RTX4080/90)? or should i just settle with current gen now...

DLSS is really design to use with RT. there's really not many games that a RTX 3060ti cant handle w/ RT off unless you are gaming @ 4K. also, DLSS pretty much requires tensor cores (a.k.a. RTX lineup only), whereas, AMD's version of it, the "FSR" can work on any GPU and thereby, make "older cards run games better"
Can't comment on DLSS 3, but from a rumor i saw about RTX 4090 using DLSS 3, it was for a game that has its RT "re-worked" offerring a lot more "realism" (multiple reflections instead of single reflection currently offered) but only able to crank out ~80 fps...

I just had to deal with this with my son's pc with a RX 580. Happened out of the blue after years of stability. Total pain in the ass to fix but doable.
