Be weary of using the Target Red Card as you don't earn 5% reward on Target Gift Cards.

From the FAQs
https://www.target.com/redcard/engagement

5% discount does not apply to the following:
- Prescriptions, over-the-counter items located behind the pharmacy counter and clinic services at Target
- Target Opticalâ„¢ eye exams and protection plans (Target Optical products, such as glasses and contact lenses, do receive the 5 % discount)
- Target GiftCard; Visa, Mastercard and American Express prepaid cards; Game On gift cards; and Starbucks gift cards purchased at Starbucks locations within Target stores

Would recommend Discover via PayPal or Chase via PayPal (Starting Oct 1)

My $200 gift card purchased from Christmas deal suddenly became $1 in march. Target gift card support says it is geniune in store transaction made 1200 miles away from my place. My account is not compromised and i never went to that city. I was told that there is no fraud protection on these gift cards

This is more like 5% off, because using the Redcard gives you 5% off already.

I paid with PayPal/Discover for the 5% cash back but not til today. Since charges usually take a few days to finalize will I still get the 5% cashback from Discover as the quarterly bonus ends today? Do they go by the authorization date or the settlement date?
Based on my personal experience of using it the last day of the quarterly bonus, Discover counts the purchase as the day it posts, not the day of purchase. I lost out on a large 5% back that time, never again. That's why I'm waiting until tomorrow and using the Chase 5% Paypal quarterly promo. But YMMV, maybe you'll be lucky.

Buying $50 and $25 physical cards for X'mas gifts.

I hope the cards will be good then.

How is that possible for someone to drain my cards if I don't use them immediately?
This is one thing I worry about with buying a large quantity of gift cards and not using them right away. Basically some criminal (could be within the company itself, even) somehow gets the numbers off a bunch of gift cards. Then when you buy/activate yours, the criminal gets notice it is activated and then uses up all the gift card online by typing in the codes, or has created duplicate cards with those numbers on the magnetic stripe and uses it at stores. This happened to me when someone gave me a Target GC they purchased a while ago. It had no money on it when I tried to use it, and it was a pain in the butt for them to try to get the money back (only the original purchaser can do it, and they have to have the original receipt, etc etc -- they didn't so they just lost all the money they spent). This also happened to me on a $100 Sprouts GC I purchased -- entire amount drained, had 0 left when I tried to use it.

Is it more secure to combine all my Target giftcard? Since I heard many of you guys got your giftcard balance clear out. It never happened to me before.

Glad this is valid tomorrow... time to combine it with the Chase 5% PayPal CB (maxed out Discover 5% after 3 weeks).
Already have plans to use the entire 1500 for Chase next week myself. Probably going to try with Apple Pay or Google Play tomorrow using Discover's digital wallet quarter. If not, there will most likely be December GC sale.

It isn't more secure to combine all into 1 giftcard. If that giftcard is compromised, all the large amt of $$ on it will be drained. It's safest to use it all up ASAP.

Yeah, same problem at alot of places, but at least if you have a redcard or maybe even just a target.com account you can save the gift card to your account to alleviate any issues.
Saving it into your account doesn't prevent someone with the numbers on a fraudulent card to also use the card, does it? For some stores, like Peets, if you load their physical GC to your Peet's online acct/app, the physical GC is zeroed out and the GC $ is now only in the acct/app. But for Starbucks, you can use the same GC online or by the physical card -- as long as you have the numbers, it can be used. I think Target is the later, you can use it stored in your Target.com acct, but also can use the physical card to use the GC $

You can tried contacting Discover after it posted. It happened to me before. I purchased an item on the last day of the quarter and the charge posted a few days later. I called and told the rep that I have email receipt showing the purchase was made on the last day. She manually adjusted and gave me the extra cash back.

i did that and they said too bad (this was for a previous offer). I guess it depends on the customer service rep you get, if they are willing to manually credit you the $. I just won't buy on the last day anymore, in fact I give it a few days.

It used to be that Target would load it to your account and the GC would remain active as well. However, when I combined balances today, I got a message that the balance had been added to my account and I could toss out the GC as it now had a $0 balance.

To combine with the current 5% cashback for Discover mobile wallet, it looks like we would need to go to the store, but at the risk of losing 10% off since it's supposed to be for only RedCard use only?

Just purchased an eGiftCard via PayPal using my Chase Freedom card for that extra 5% back (for a grand total of 14.5% off the gift card value). Thanks, SD!
