I bought one of these, along with it's big brother (65") 3 years ago. Both are going strong.
Picked up the 55" model 55S20 from Walmart Black Friday deals in 2020 for $150. Still working great. The Netflix app freezes if you are scrolling for a while, but I just close the app (sometimes reboot the TV) and it works fine again. That's the only issue I've had with mine. I love the Roku OS, very easy to use and has many apps compared to other OS ( LG WebOS, Samsung, etc). If you are in the market for a cheap 55" this would be a good option.
I have one and would not recommend except for a bedroom where you are watching straight on... the viewing angle is horrible and colors fade when viewed from even slightly off center.

Also, in general, for Roku, I would much rather have an external roku box than a TV with a Roku os, the difference being the remote with external box is radio frequency (works any direction its pointed or under covers, etc) vs infrared (has to be pointed at tv), plus the headphone jack on remote and the voice control.

It's been this price in Walmart stores for well over a month. It's really a trash TV like the ones they blowout at BF. This is more like regular price. I had one very similar to this that we used to watch TV series in the bedroom and after seeing how much better they look on the 5-yo family room Sony we can never go back, even for old shows. We didn't realize what we were missing with the terrible picture on these low-end TCLs.

Now my wife demands that we only buy Sony henceforth. Sigh.

TVs are "discounted" back to normal price since all the cargo ships have now offloaded their stuff at Port of LA and Port of Long Beach.
:::Queue up that guy that is worried about the impact of salt water on the components of these discounted TVs:::

Terrible viewing angle. Other than that, it's a solid tv. It's processor is strong enough to run the Roku smart stuff well.

You can sub out the remote with one that has RF. I did on mine (the black friday model from last year). Much better than messing with IR.

I think this is the one I have... ive had it for a few years now. Its fine. My biggest gripe is that its really slow. Spotify only opens sometimes, apple TV takes forever to load, netflix, amazon, etc are a bit more reliable, but still pretty slow.

And of course viewing angle and black levels arent great, but its a cheap TV...

I have one of these. Works great. Have had it for 3ish years now I think? My only complaint would be that it doesn't get very bright. Watching House of the Dragon last week was a challenge - so dark!
Granted... I have this and an oled c1 and both I had issues LOL... HOtD and GOT just want really dark scenes...

I know it's YMMV, but I just saw this same Costco model for $199.97.
Nearby 48178 zip code if anyone's interested. Didn't look how many, but it didn't say "floor model" or "last one" or anything.

Sony has the best upscaling and pre-calibration accuracy. Samsung has the best deinterlacing. But if you watch newer shows in 4K then don't need to have a TV with good upscaling or deinterlacing.

IMO -- since tvs are so cheap now, just wait for a deal on a 5-series with dolby vision. the difference is noticeable. I have a 50 of this thing and its good, and i have a 50 of the 5 series and its a nice upgrade and still cheap.

either way -- 2 tlc tvs and i like them both for being a cheapo tv guy.

I'm with you, on all that. My 49S405 from 2017 was great and I couldn't justify upgrading it, until the backlight went out a few days ago. I didn't see a great price on another 4-series and Besbuy had the new 55S555 5-series 55" in stock locally for $430, so I jumped on it. It's beautiful. Might still see about fixing the dead one to replace the old Panasonic plasma in the basement (screen, sound, etc. still work, just no backlight, but I haven't messed with it yet). Many people have had this issue, which can be relatively cheap to fix.

I'm frugal but not outright cheap, so I didn't mind spending an extra $100 to step up to what the 5-series offers, but another $200 on top of that for a 6-Series seemed like too much for me. 55" is about as big as I could go for the room in question without having to move stuff around and risking it overwhelming the room, which I didn't want to look like a theater. I drool at the sight of OLEDs but I really think I'll be happy with the 5-series. Might pick up a 43" or 50" 4-series to replace my mom's old 32" LG that's looked crumby since new.

There's a lot of shows and movies these days like that - just ridiculously dark, regardless of how nice of a TV you watch on. I don't get it but it's definitely a real thing, not just poor quality TVs.

Still other good reasons, but you can buy the remote as an addon for most Roku TVs. Supports all the ones from TCL.
