I see a lot of Ryobi talk. It's good for the homeowner. Ryobi has a lot of gimmick tools as well. But it's just not really a tool I'd trust for consistent use regardless of what motors or internal parts cross the assembly line with other brands. Ridgid is along side Ryobi as both are home depot brands. I trust the prior generation of ridgid tools. The latest Gen feels cheap. In the end find a brand you trust so you don't invest in various tools and batteries that don't work off each other.
Dewalt was mentioned, I've had lots of issues with Dewalt chucks on their drills. So much I stopped using Dewalt. Ridgid never a problem with the chuck, I've also noticed battery failures in Dewalt more than any other brand. Just my real world observation working in the entertainment industry where guys run tools 12 hours a day. Ridgid, you either get a good battery, or you don't. I've had a few DOA new in the package batteries from ridgid.
With Ryobi VS ridgid batteries. Ridgid batteries are easier to pocket and carry being flat on top as Ryobi has the old type neck that goes into the handle.
Lastly it's always a pet peeve of mine when people mistakenly refer to the ridgid Lifetime Service Agreement as a lifetime warranty. Read the LSA stipulations and requirements. It's Not a warranty. If you send something in it's on your own dime, and if they don't honor the service agreement it's your dime to have it sent back. It's a marketing gimmick for the most part.
All that said I choose ridgid over all other brands. But as stated the prior Gen of tools. Not sure I'd trust the latest Gen as it just doesn't feel proper and again they stepped backwards not forwards to advance the tech. All based on my experience of course. You're opinion may vary.

My only complaint is just how expensive the other tools are and that they rarely go on any meaningful sales. I'm just your average homeowner that does some small woodworking projects on the side occasionally, but I sorta wish I had went with a Ryobi cordless system instead. Is that crazy?

I could not agree more with your comment ..I have been using a hyper tough 20v walmart set and I am a homeowner as well but I like to do all the work around the house myself without running to a handyman . My 20V hyper tough has never failed me. When I upgrade I will go for Ryobi just for their variety and low prices but on the flip side I might end up with tools which I don't really need :-) !

Ryobi is so good that I consider it overkill for home, but not good for heavy contractor use. You won't go wrong with them, plus their variety of tools is insane! They almost have a 18v kitchen blender lol

I am way into Ridgid and Milwaukee m12 ecosystem already but my next upgrade is switching to Ryobi.

Why? I ask because I'm currently looking to do the exact opposite. Trying to decide between rigid and Milwaukee. Milwaukee seems to be what all the pros use, but rigid has the best warranty.

R872311K is the new impact. R87012K is the new drill. They are smaller overall.

I have had my two batteries replaced three times and chuck once, over the last 15 years, and it didn't cost me a dime. I dropped the drill off at an authorized repair facility for the Chuck and batteries once and twice they sent me batteries after claiming on their website. I never had to ship my drill or batteries. I have nothing but praise for Ridgid!
