This. The failure point of these type of things is the set screws. I am a carpenter and trust me, this tool isn't as useful as you'd think. It's quite big so it makes it tough to get into tight spots. Save your money and don't let the SD effect get you, you don't really need this.

This is a drill bit and counter sink on one side, and a drill driver bit on the other. You drill the hole, then a quick release flip of the bit to a driver to drive screws.

it has a hex bolt that you can losen to replace the drill bit

100% agree. If you do not have a drill and an impact and do any amount of DIY you should get an impact. I use my impact 99% of the time and only use the drill when I am actually drilling and do not have the appropriate hex shaft drill bit. Before I had an impact this was handy but also quite clunky and overtly long. Just my opinion. If you are just building a speaker box or something and only have a drill, you will love it.

Have one I got on clearance at Lowe's a few years ago. Used it once. It's more or as time consuming as using two drills. If you only have one drill then maybe it's ok, but I would invest that $12 into a second drill. Building a deck now and I have four drills setup and ready to go every day. Way easier than switching bits. You can score cheap deals on impacts and especially normal drivers.

If you are doing something that is important enough to predrill the holes for, I'd recommend using a clutched drill (or screwdriver) instead of an impact to drive the screws so that you can more accurately set them.

Agreed.

Broke a set screw after a few weeks and tried to get a warranty replacement and they accused me (just a weekend "warrior") of over-using them, like I was using them on an oil rig, or something.

I use one of these all the time with my DIY projects, especially with Toenailing in additional 2x4's (Toescrewing?), and I'm pretty adept at flipping the bit where it's much faster than swapping drills, especially up on a ladder.

I will say that I had used this in my impact driver and it is NOT impact-rated in my opinion. Granted, the packaging doesn't say it is, but I liked driving the screws with the impact, and figured "How bad can it be?" I think it took about a dozen 2 1/2" drywall screws into some 2x4's to gang them up caused it's early demise. Now I know better.

I also prefer the type of flip bit where the ring is either locked or unlocked, not this type of spring-loaded flip, as it seems to get hung up a bit more often. I had an ancient Makita flip bit that finally fell apart after several years. I should have stayed with that type.

Aren't set screws easy to replace? I'm not challenging you. I know practically nothing. I just imagined that they would be easy to replace.
