May grab a pair only because REI has a one year, no questions asked return policy... But 😬
You generally want winter boots not hiking boots. I love my Lowa insulated winter boots and they have a few good ones.
Alternatively, you can get something like Yaktrax or crampons [nymag.com]. There's usually a tradeoff where the ones you can wear inside don't last as long but the best ones might damage flooring if you wore them inside.
People are expecting them to be something they are not. They are a lightweight day hiker.
I need something a bit more than trail runners, so I think I will give them a try. My one issue is my dog LOVES to eat Salomon quick laces
For GTX boots, now I stay with Merrel and Arctyryx
