This'll be my first time doing so, and I'll be sending in a 2 in 1 dell as well. Looks like they use the BIOS date.

Not sure how old your Trade-in device is or what processor it has? We have some handy tips to help you find this information below. Simply select your Trade-in device's operating system and follow the steps:
Windows Laptop
If your Trade-in unit is a Windows Laptop, follow these steps:
Press the Windows key on your keyboard
Start typing System
Select System Information.
Here you will see the BIOS date, which shows the age of your laptop, as well as the Processor.
If the Windows key is not available on your keyboard, simply right-click the Windows icon located on the bottom-left corner of your screen using your mouse and choose System

It's a little bit confusing, but the page you checked are for the current products that have the trade-in promotion. The laptop requirements that qualify for trade-in are more generalized. Please check the link below instead.

I stay away from any laptop with recognized hinge issues. I've bought two over the past few years that were used carefully, even left open on a desk for 95% of usage just to avoid potential hinge issues, yet all it took was one fateful open/close to break the weak hinge connections. On the other hand, I have a 6 year old Dell 5000 series 2 in 1 that hasnt been babied at all, and not a single issue, with no reports of wide spread hnge issues either. Take the warnings as real, or you might be the next person commenting on these threads about it.

FWIW...I bought overpriced accident/damage protection warranties from the manufacturers before my 1 year original warranty was up, and used that to fix the hinge and immediately sold them after and replaced with laptops that didn't have the issue. Manufacturers (particularly Dell and Lenovo, even bought through Costco) will NOT honor a warranty repair for hinge issues, always claiming it as accident damage and not a manufacturer defect.

Just purchased because I have a 2 in 1 asus laptop that barely makes the cutoff with a mfd of 11/2015.

Been looking for any type of review on this unit, but couldn't find anything in YouTube. Also, what would happen to the $300 giftcard if I were to return this laptop? (Kind of concerned with this "screen door effect")

Yeah I wish I could see it. Any chance the screen is 90hz like the other oled lenovo 14" displays?
Yes it can do 90hz. By default it is set to 60hz.

Excellent, thanks for the update! I think it is the same panel used on the yoga 9i which is stunning, but I didn't look for screen door effect. Also maybe they don't calibrate them for color or something on the flex 5 model.

I went to bestbuy to checkout the yoga 9i. The 2.8k one seems not have slight screen door effect and on the 4k model I did not notice any screen door effect. I decided to get the 4k model when it goes on sale. Also I like the edges on 9i makes it so much comfortable to hold and use it.

I am in the same situation - loved the yoga 9i but still waiting for another sale. Maybe black friday.

So you're saying the 2.8k panel on the yoga does NOT have the same screen door effect as on this flex 5? Definitely NOT the same OLED 2.8k 90hz panel?

I thought the screen door effect is very less apparent on the 9i 2.8k compared to this model. 4k one had aalmost none. I did not check if 9i 2.8k model has 90hz.

Yeah the 2.8k oled on the yoga 9i does have 90hz, which is why it is more desirable to a lot of people than the 60hz 4k oled.

Well, if the surface pro 9 / surface laptop 5 are garbage (announced on wednesday) I'll order this. Costco has a good return policy so no biggie if the screen door is terrible.

To those who're concerned about hinges, the following item also qualifies. Price is $100 more, but you get dedicated graphics card.

It's 15" though

15 inch non OLED and lower resolution. However not everyone may need that much Rez you'd have to magnify everything a lot to see icons and text on a 14 inch screen.

The specs on the laptop seem really great given the trade in price I'm just really worried about this hinge issue. It's all over Lenovo forums and Costco doesn't seem to cover physical damage.

Yeah, but the resolution drops to 1080p and the display downgrades from OLED to IPS.
