No disrespect but this is a really bad post along with your first one.

I have no reason to disbelieve you but without sources, it is hard to believe the extent of what you are saying. Or judge whether you are spreading FUD intentionally or otherwise.

The models you listed earlier have very different NAND chips MLC and TLC, so it is unlikely a NAND production error. They also have multiple controllers, so it is unlikely to be controller error.

Google search only brings up some forum posts and long deleted Reddit posts of anecdotal experiences that can exist for any SSD.

But you suggest several articles and have so far refused to back it up with sources.

Again, I am not saying you are necessarily wrong but credibility is not high for the claims or you could be mistaken in what you read or may have generalized or extrapolated too much.

Until there is some credible sources to check, your posts should be taken as an unsubstantiated rumor. This is the worst use of a user forum.

I have a 960 EVO I have been using for 5 years and a 970 Pro for 2 and have not had one single issue reported by SMART so perhaps there is specific lot# you can identify?

However, I am not sure how one refurbishes a device like this outside of blowing off dust.

Just installed a 980 Pro 1TB w/ heat sink geek squad refurb this weekend. Less than 1 hr usage on the drive. Seems like a good deal at $90 for a PCIe Gen 4 SSD w/dram.

Refurbished just means it was returned for any reason, and bench tech verified it worked. Which is more attention than new gets. Once an item is returned, it can't be sold as new again.

I don't think so at least not speed wise. I have a Corsair mp600 lpx 7gbs and it's not faster in what I do then a 3.5gbs 970 plus. Unless you are transferring large files from one nvme to another very pointless.

What about in terms of reliability and warranty? I know the 980 pro have a 5 year warranty.

I have an EVO 960 M.2 250 Gb I bought from Fry's for $109.99 back in 2017. The only issue I've had with it is full and so I will be upgrading to an EVO 980 Pro 2 TB today. I paid $189.99 on Amazon with 10% Cashback last week.

I have zero why people saying Samsung EVO series have high fail rates. Five years ago it had the least fail rates and still holds true today.

There's no guaranty a new drive is going to be any safer than a used. In both cases they sometimes just fail. If it's just a matter of 'wear' you're concerned with, as I understand it SSDs are a lot less likely to suddenly fail in regular use from wear and tear than mechanical HDDs. Their wear builds up gradually and you can get a pretty good idea how much longer it will last. If you're depending on the drive being new to keep your data safe, it's a mistake regardless. Count on backups and redundancy to keep your data safe.

I agree. After getting burned by a dead Kingston and losing data, I only buy Samsung drives now; I think I have 5-6 NVME and SATA drives in different configurations around our household.

Rolled the dice and got the $35 - 500GB version of this. Bought BB GCs from a website I've used in the past. Ended up $30 total doing it that way. Not a bad price if the usage is low. If I'm not happy with it, I'll simply return and reorder! Have so much second hand and refurb stuff it's almost embarrassing. laugh out loud

Agree. A dram-less drive is going to be slower (aka the 980 here) in several cases. Its corner-cutting that I would not have expected from Samsung.
