Apple didn't offer for the latest Samsung many years

Google doing this isn't surprising

It's probably related to the trade in department or vendor not having a way to judge value or process those newest phones yet

Because it's a budget phone
Because it's the most current pixel

The last thing Google wants is for people to buy an "a" version in August and give a $500 trade in in October

If your trade-in is valued higher than the remaining amount for your phone, if you go to View Trade-In Details in the "receipt" section where it says payment option it should say "Google Store Credit". That's what mine shows because my estimated trade-in value is twice the remaining amount of my phone.

I'm pretty sure they use the same place no matter what. I will say, I had no issues and most I've seen have no issues. Yes, the day they deliver it won't update the status and I'm assuming that's because they receive so many but you'll usually get something from google that evening. I've seen more positive experiences than negative to be honest. Even saw one where he traded-in a phone with a cracked back glass but yet still got the full trade-in amount as if not cracked.

More times than I'd care for I've needed to have a backup phone. Plus, different network so if main doesn't have signal, good chance the backup will. Also, as you can see it doesn't work out to be $700 or anywhere near that after all is said and done. Lastly, not that I have to explain, I like phones. To each their own.
