Review i read said it's only good for normal mowing when the grass just starts to get too high and will have problems with thick grass.

I've been using mine two summers now and no sign of losing charge. I average once a week for mowing. About 45 minutes of mow time. Only uses about 40% of the charge each time.

Not my experience. I'm sure it would have problems with really high grass, but it does fine for me when it is getting shaggy (I don't know, maybe 7" tall). As long as it is dry, that is.
