I bet half the people complaining about soldered RAM don't even know how to change the RAM in a computer. 🙄

Isn't 16GB enough?

Lenovo sure makes some odd laptops. Decent CPU. Good ram. But soldered. No touch screen and thunderbolt. I saw an other one with strong cpu and gpu. But low storage and ram. Both soldered. Why do they make desirable machines. But make sure it has unfixable flaws.

I'm not saying RAM is not important. I'm just saying that having extra doesn't get you very far. Some people just think that more is better. But it's diminishing returns. 8 gig is fine for the vast majority of users. 16 is better. But after that most people we see almost no benefit. Sure some heavy users will. But it will do nothing for the Average user. And is just wasteful
gee, let me see...whats more wasteful in 3 yrs:
1. oh my 16gb ram is not enough, but it's soldered, so I can't upgrade, this goes to the landfill and I need to buy a brand new machine
2. let me go buy 16gb ram for $20. nothing goes to the landfill.

I wholeheartedly agree that storage has historically been the bottleneck. SSDs have rejuvenated a number of older workstation-class machines for me.

However, with a bit more RAM available, the OS won't have to resort to paging to disk nearly as much. That does benefit performance somewhat.

I think solid-state storage is primary for a good experience, and RAM is secondary. Together they complement each other.
right, but keep in mind, SSD have limited life and even though they are faster than HDD, they are still EXTREMELY slow when compared to RAM. DDR4 3200MHz is 25600MB/s sustained.
The best consumer SSD today is only 7000MB/s in best case scenario, and can't be sustained for a few seconds. Once you start throwing files at it after a few seconds, or bunch of small random files, it goes to a crawl when compared to RAM.
