The same can be said about classic cars, HiFi audio equipment, road bikes, guns, liquors, or anything else certain communities are appreciative of. There is always a group of people that like things for a particular set of features, craftsmanship, or specific emotions they bring.

$3200 is pretentious? On a brand most people outside the Watch community have likely never heard of? Ok.

Also, you seem fun.

Pretentious is thread crapping on items you don't understand as a way of making yourself feel superior for being cheap.

There are pretty good inexpensive homages of the BB58, but nothing comes close to the bronze. Out of my price range, but it's a gorgeous piece.

To the folks complaining about expensive watches, think of it this way. Say you put 10k in a savings account and inflation is 6% a year. This time next year, your money is worth 4% less. Then think about spending that 10k on a watch. And take a look at the value of that watch in 5 years. You get to wear an art investment that makes your money worth more than sitting in a savings account. Simple economics dudes

With Rolex, they retain or increase in value with time, so it is an investment or hedge against inflation. Ironic...
I wouldn't call Tudor an investment, however. Only the Rolexes, Pateks, and maybe APs are... Even then only some of their watches are and not all. Most of us, if we're looking at the Tudors, are probably not going to be able to afford one of these investment watches to begin with, though.

Ok though so. Gray market seems to be the only way to get these watches unless you are a popular customer at these shops.
Are Tudors hard to get, too? I knew that the Rolexes are hard to get. Sheesh. I guess if you have money, you have money.

As I've replied to another post, the Tudor watches are NOT investment watches. Will the brand new Tudor Black Bay 58 sold by Tudor cost more than it does now in 5 years? Sure. Will your 5 year old Tudor Black Bay 58 cost more than you bought it for on the second hand market? NO. No other watches really appreciate other than a few very high end brands (Rolex, Patek, AP, etc.). Even for those, only some of the watches appreciate.

They are sister brands. Rolex is the more prominent and Tudor is the little sister.

Tudor is seen as using "lesser quality." (bezel does not have as many microclicks, faux rivets, bracelet is not as adjustable on the fly, etc)

That being said, pre 2000s a lot of tudors were made with rolex parts.
Not al Rolex has bracelet adjustable on the fly, Tudor Pelagos does.

mechanical excellence and looks in the same vein as a Porsche

just because one doesn't understand or know the history make it a pretentious expenditure

don't understand why people make frivolous comments in these threads about deals ...
I think it's because they're broke douchebags who kinda wish they could afford a badass $3000 watch, but can't, so they have to lash out as those who can.

Is this really a good price for grey market Tudor? I will be surprised if you can't get similar discount from AD. But I'm a Rolex hater and I don't know how their AD do things.
Might be easier now to get a slight discount with current market conditions.

If the model is ever discontinued Tudors have known to appreciate quite a bit....not saying this may happen with the BB58 but...

A tudor sub from the 70s, 80s, even 90s are all well worth more than 10k if they are in very good condition and have all boxes and papers.

If it's a sport model it will have some sort of on the fly adjustment. If it's a dress watch then it will most likely not have any sort of micro adjustment.

I personally prefer the newer Black Bay Pro much better.

Because they have bought other investments that can afford them to buy this... to show that they have arrived!
