There's also a 20% Amex offer on dell, just bought one, essentially the price is close to the xps desktop and idealcentre 5 costco deal.

I have no experience with alienwares, can I upgrade components myself (ie replace gpu, add memory, etc?
Okay, fine, I'll do it.

(Honestly I really enjoy their reviews. Almost makes me want to build another whitebox. Almost.)

Thank you rufwork. I built my current gaming pc myself anchored by skylake and gtx 1080. Still works decent but already showing age like no longer upgradeable to windows 11. So I'm lookin around for upgrade options, this time I'm leaning towards pre-built rig that looks kinda nice.

Came across this post, and I have $340 of dell credits across a couple of amex cards and thought this rig looks nice (as per pictures with watercooling and see thu panel) No idea abt alienware tho so the more I learn abt this unit, the more turned off i get (no see thru panel, plastic chassis, no liquid cooling, no post purchase oem upgrade chassis/cooling mod).

Decided no go for me after watching ur video. I'll hold off for 13th gen and RTX 40* for my upgrade.

It's not really about trolling. These cases are impractical, impede airflow and Dell needlessly introduces proprietary components in an industry that thrives on widely accepted standards.

I have no problems with individuals who want pre-built rigs; I just think they should know what they're getting.

I must've built 30 towers, but the game has changed. Unless you live near a micro center, it's almost always cheaper to get a pre-built and then rebuild and customize, especially if you have nice cases and fans and PS from older builds.

Sure but proprietary parts, including the motherboard, means you can't do that with these systems. If you can't use the mobo, the case, psu is subpar and they're choking the cpu due to heat... most are just better off getting a pre-built without those problems. Even a base but decent system can and should serve a gamer well for years.

Agreed 100%. This would be a terrible system to get if you want to part it out into a new system.

Don't know anything about these systems at this price point would it be a good choice for music production and video editing? Thanks!

This is more than enough for your untalented child to post videos on tik tok.

The guy above you says this case is HUGE. I guess everything is subjective.
It is, but inside its the small and ever smaller metal box they use in their econoboxes, the tilted square plastic just inflates the outside for no practical reason.

750W PSU. Looks like lousy video card... Will a 3080/3090 fit in this?
It's in the 3060ti/3070 middle ground. I wouldn't put a 3090 in this unless you like to RMA a lot.

I just bought this. Combined Amex offers from 3 cards. Card 1: 120 off 599, card 2: 120 off 599 and Card 3: 50 off 100. On top that, used top cash back which will provide 4% cash back which is addition $74. Dell rewards around $36 or $37. 1199+100(tax)= 1298.99. 1298.99-120-120-50-74-36=898.99. Hope this helps anyone wants to use as much as offers they can.

Edit: Also, pls let me know if I got a good price with all these offers and worth it. 😜
$900 is a great price. This is a little better than a 3060ti equipped system and you're getting 12th gen CPU with ddr-5! People are happily paying $1100+ for a 3060ti system with ddr-4. Only wish would be more storage but that's an easy fix.

I looked very hard at the various Alienware configs that have been posted lately and watched several YouTube vids about this.

https://youtu.be/GcEYkfdNFpA

This guy gives a great overview of all the things he did to address the two biggest issues - noise and heat. Long story short, you can make the machine significantly quieter by replacing the fans. BUT, no matter what he did (and he will show you all the tests) nothing really helped with cooling
